UFC 153 will see the world’s largest promotion return to what they have deemed the new mecca of mixed martial arts. The UFC takes Rio’s HSBC Arena on October 13 with Jose Aldo defending his title against Erik Koch. A pair of bouts, which will prominently feature a trio of TUF: Brazil competitors, were added to the card today.
Ronny Mariano Bezerra (11-3), the featherweight winner of TUF:Brazil, willl be locking horns with Sam Sicilia in his second UFC bout. “Jason” defeated Godofredo “Pepey” to take home his country’s inaugural Ultimate Fighter title. The heavy-handed Spokane, Washington native is coming off his own TUF victory against Cristiano Marcello at The Ultimate Fighter: Live Finale in June. While Dana White has been critical of the Brazilian’s performance at UFC 147, it is unlikely that Sicilia will let him simply coast to victory as “Jason” has already admitted to doing.
The second match-up pits TUF: Brazil alumni against one another as Sergio Moraes (6-2) meets Renee Forte (7-1) in a welterweight bout. Moraes, the season’s middleweight runner-up, is coming off a hotly contested loss to Cezar “Mutante” Ferreira in the co-main event of UFC 147. Forte will be making his UFC debut after being unable to compete at UFC 147. The Nova Uniao product recently rebounded from his sole career loss with a TKO win over Renan Santos in May.
