The UFC will crown its first flyweight champion in Toronto when Joe Benavidez faces off with Demetrious Johnson for the inaugural UFC flyweight title. Also added to UFC 152 is a middleweight fight between Brian Stann and Michael Bisping. The UFC confirmed the bout announcements late Friday.
Joe Benavidez and Demetrious Johnson both proved victorious against their tournament opponents to advance to the finals, though it took Johnson a two attempts to do so. Both were veterans of the WEC before joining the UFC as bantamweights. After unsuccessful attempts to take the bantamweight crown from Dominick Cruz, both fighters made the cut to flyweight. The two will finally face off in Toronto in what is sure to be an exciting fight.
Also added to the Toronto card is a middleweight bout between Michael Bisping and Brian Stann. The bout was set after Bisping challenged Stann on UFC Tonight, and Stann immediately jumped at the opportunity. The middleweight contender bout is expected to be the co-main event for the evening.
UFC 152 takes place September 22 live from Toronto, Ontario. While the co-main event is set, the main event has not been explicitly announced at this time. A welterweight bout between BJ Penn and rising welterweight Rory MacDonald is also set for the September event.
