Heavyweights Shane Carwin and Roy Nelson will serve as the head coaches on the “The Ultimate Fighter 16.” The upcoming season will begin filming next month with the show debuting in September. USA Today originally reported the news.
The two heavyweights will face off on the program’s finale in December. UFC President had this to say about the matchup:
“This is going to be a very interesting dynamic between these two heavyweights,” White said. “They both have huge punching power and great chins, but outside of the octagon, they couldn’t be any more different.
“These two have been going at it on social media for a while and don’t seem to like each other very much, but they are going to be seeing a lot of each other during this series.”
The show will feature 32 welterweights battling it out for the 16 spots in the TUF house and the customary six-figure UFC contract. This season will also return to the pre-taped format, after a season-long experiment with a live fight format, in an effort to build story lines throughout the season.
