After the UFC on Fuel TV 4 post-fight Press Conference, Dana White finally announced the coaches for The Ultimate Fighter: UK vs Australia. Named “The Sm-Ashes” after a biennial cricket tournament that takes place between the two nations, this season of TUF will be focused on pitting the best prospects in the UK against the best Down Under, Ross Pearson will be coaching Team UK while George Sotiropoulos does the honors for the Aussies.
Sotiropoulos (14-4), an Ultimate Fighter 6 veteran, is coming off consecutive losses to Dennis Siver and Rafael Dos Anjos. Prior to his most recent skid, the jiu jitsu specialist was undefeated in the UFC, going on a seven-fight tear that included wins over the likes of Joe Lauzon, Joe Stevenson, and Kurt Pellegrino. The Aussie submission ace was most recently slated to do battle with Takanori Gomi at UFC 144, but was forced to pull out of the bout due to injury.
Pearson (13-6), The Ultimate Fighter 9 winner, is coming off a disappointing knockout loss to Cub Swanson at UFC on FX 4. Prior to that bout, the Brit had earned a dominant unanimous decision victory over Junior Assuncao in December in his featherweight debut.
While it is unclear as to whether Pearson will be returning to lightweight or Sotiropoulos will be venturing down to test the waters at 145 lb, a match-up between the two seems promising to say the least.
