After years of anticipation, the time has come for Icelandic prodigy Gunnar Nelson to join the ranks of the UFC welterweight division. Nelson recently returned to action this passed February in a first round submission over Alexander Butenko at Cage Contender 12. The 23-year-old jiu jitsu ace had taken the entirety of 2011 off to hone his craft at the world famous Renzo Gracie Academy in New York.
Now primed for the big show, the submission expert brings a nearly perfect 9-0-1 record to the Octagon, with every single one of his wins coming by way of stoppage. The Icelandic grappler’s promotional debut will come in the shape of a match-up with Pascal Krauss at UFC on Fuel TV 5 in Nottingham, England.
“Panzer” Krauss (10-1) will be coming into the octagon looking to rebound from a unanimous decision loss to John Hathaway, the first of his career. Prior to the loss, the German defeated Mark Scanlon in his UFC debut in November of 2010 at UFC 122.
