After putting together an impressive run inside the octagon, Yuri Alcantara (31-4) literally hit a wall named Hacran Dias at UFC 147. Prior to that bout, Alcantara had already been anointed a future featherweight title challenger before losing a unanimous decision to his countryman.
“Marajo”, who was always a bit undersized after spending the majority of his career at 155 lb, has now decided to make yet another weight cut and test the waters at bantamweight. The 31-year-old’s first foray into the lighter division promises to be an interesting one. While there is no shortage of talent at 135 lb, the skills and physical ability the Brazilian has displayed in heavier weight classes may be enough to push him near the top of the division in almost no time.
While it is still uncertain what the future holds for Alcantara, the promising Brazilian fighter is certainly one who will attempt to make the most of his run at bantamweight.
