Another day, another injury. Claude Patrick has fallen out of his UFC 149 welterweight bout with James Head. Stepping in for the Canadian will be Brian Ebersole, ironically the last man to defeat him.
After a relatively quick turn around, Ebersole (50-14-1), who defeated T.J Waldburger in a hotly contested bout a mere two weeks ago, will once again bring his hairrow to the octagon on July 21st at the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, Canada to meet James Head.
Head (8-2), most recently bounced back from his promotional loss to Nick Ring by coming out on top in an all out war against Papi Abedi at UFC on Fuel 2, submitting his opponent at 4:33 of the first round.

I really like Ebersole. He always comes to fight and tries to stay busy. And the fact that he just fought a couple weeks ago, in a fight that was pretty physical, is just awesome. I’m pulling for him in this one.
I don’t see why Ebersole would take this fight, not only is it on short notice but he is on a 4 fight wining streak in the UFC over some pretty solid competition, and he is stepping in for a guy he just recently beat.
I think he should definitely get a step up in the welterweight division at this point.
Cause the way’s he’s probably looking at it, he beat him once, he can do it again and make it 5 in a row. Plus, even if he does lose, the UFC won’t hold it against him since he’s doing them a favor. I’m sure he’ll get a short notice and turn around bonus.
he is stepping in for a guy he recently beat he is not fighting the same guy.
My bad, I completely misread that. Either way, when you do a favor for the UFC and shw youre a company man, they tend to take care of you in the long run. Besides, he’s getting older and who knows how many more years he has left. Might just want to fight as much as he can until then.
Being a good company man is in some ways more important that being a world-beating talent. You need to have a certain ability, but the willingness to take a fight on short notice gets you brownie points that can be spent on getting more rope when you go on a losing skid. It probably gets you a few more under the table (or behind the curtain) bonuses. Those can definitely be more important than any one specific outcome.
He def deserves a step up in competition. I don’t think he turns down any fight they give him, I just wish they didn’t offer this one to him…
