Swedish muay Thai specialist Jorgen Kruth has been tapped to make his UFC light heavyweight debut on September 29 at UFC on Fuel TV 5, which takes place at the Capital FM Arena in Nottingham, England. Welcoming him to the octagon will be Team Nogueira’s Fabio Maldonado.
Kruth (5-0) was originally slated to make his promotional debut at UFC on Fuel TV 2, which took place in his hometown of Stockholm. Unfortunately, much like ostensibly half the roster at this point, the kickboxer was kept off the card due to injury. Kruth is undefeated in his MMA career and although he’s a newcomer to the sport, his extensive background in professional kickboxing (boasting a 71-14 record) proves he’s not new to the fight game.
Maldonado (18-5) is looking to rebound from competitive back-to-back decision losses against Kyle Kingsbury and Igor Pokrajac. The heavy-handed Brazilian boxer is known for delivering excitement each time he steps into the cage, as well as his arsenal of hard rib roasters. Given the fact that Maldonado has not had his hand raised since his 2010 promotional debut, which saw him trounce James McSweeney in the third round of an all out brawl, it’s more than likely that this is a must-win situation for the Brazilian.
