MMA Junkie has confirmed with promoter Mick Maynard that NCAA Division I Champion Darrion Caldwell is Legacy FC bound. While no official date is set for the 24-year old wrestler’s debut, it is a strong possibility that he will make his pro featherweight debut at Legacy FC 15 in Houston’s Arena Theater on November 16.
The North Carolina State wrestler is best known for his 2009 upset victory over heavily favored Hodge Trophy winner Brent Metcalf, which saw Caldwell obliterate his opponent with a score of 11-4, clinching the title for the New Jersey native. He completed his NCAA career with an impressive record of 109-13.
Now transitioning to MMA, the young prodigy has surrounded himself with fellow wrestlers the likes of Aaron Simpson and Ryan Bader at Power MMA in Arizona. Caldwell’s technical prowess and athleticism are a great base for the champion, who may just have one of the more promising futures in recent memory ahead of him.
