With all the hype surrounding UFC 148 as the year’s biggest event, Zuffa is definitely treating it as such. Added to the week’s usual pre-fight line-up has been a second press conference for the event.
While an unusual move, it seems only natural that an event anchored by the undisputed pound-for-pound king and the one man who has been able to draw his ire hitherto has extra focus put on the main event.
With last week’s highly publicized teleconference showing a whole new side to UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva, the time to grant further exposure to his rivalry with the best hype-man in the business, Chael Sonnen, is now.
The first UFC 148 press conference will take place Tuesday July 3rd at 11 a.m. PST at Lagasse’s Stadium at Palazzo. The event will allow the stars of the show to shine as Silva and Sonnen will meet one last time before weigh-ins.
The week’s second conference will focus on the evening’s co-main event, giving Tito Ortiz and Forrest Griffin the floor ahead of their rubber match. Ortiz, who will be inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame on Saturday, will retire after the bout. An independent press conference between the two former champions may be the best option for the two legends, who have proven to be outshined by the heat between the event’s headliners. Forrest and Tito will meet Thursday, July 5 at 11 a.m. PST at XS Nightclub at the Encore Hotel, giving them one last chance to field questions and call attention to their bout.
