Alistair Overeem on “UFC Tonight”

Alistair Overeem appeared on “UFC Tonight” this past Tuesday night on Fuel TV. The former Strikeforce champion and former UFC number one contender discussed his future and his suspension in regards to a failed drug test following a UFC 146 press conference.

Overeem’s suspension will end this December and the Dutch fighter is hoping that he will be able to appear on the UFC’s usual year end card.

I find it difficult to fault an MMA fighter for using steroids. Especially when you know that most of them are just better at covering their useage than ones who get caught.
An MMA fighter subjects his body to daily damage far beyond that of most other athletes. The use of steroids is more for helping the body to repair itself rather than for having a strength or endurance advantage over opponents.
As for AO, damn he’s an exciting fighter to watch. He is the definition of fighter unlike some of the lay and pray type fighters who only look for a win by not engaging.

    • Testosterone is not a steroid.

Now write that 3000 times on the chalkboard until you learn that simple f’ing fact and stop libeling fighters.

      I’ll start for you…
Testosterone is not a steroid. Testosterone is not a steroid. Testosterone is not a steroid. Testosterone is not a steroid.

He’s a great fighter which is why it is such a shame that he screwed up. I don’t know if he used steroids purposly or not but i’m inclined by his 14:1 ratio to say he probably did but even if he didn’t know it was in his medication it is still his responsibility as a fighter to know what he is putting in his body. But hope he clears this crap up and comes back completly legit.

Testosterone is a steroid hormone, hence why -sterone is in the word. Steroids have a broad definition. So it is a steroid, and it is an anabolic agent as well. It’s not usually grouped in with most anabolic steroids due to its natural occurrence but with the expansion of synthetic testosterone as an Rx it is more commonly used than the old steroids.

So no one is libeling anyone.

      • There is a MAJOR difference between a naturally-occurring steroid hormone and a fully synthetic (usually anabolic) steroid. WADA sees it this way, every AC in the country sees it this way.

If there wasn’t a significant difference, we wouldn’t have TRT TUEs. Or we would have legalized TUEs for fully synthetic anabolic steroids.

      • And really…when it comes to backwater blog with limited resources and illiterate writers, isn’t it best to err on the side of caution with libel?

Hate to see Rebellion Media’s big investment here go away under a pile of legal papers.

      • Chris Leslie says:

Actually, WADA does not. Testosterone is listed on the substances and methods prohibited at all times list along with nadrolone, stanozolol, etc.

All drug testing provides for specific thresholds of what can be in your system, you exceed that threshold and that’s what makes a positive test.

You can get a TUE for anything if you can provide enough medical data to back it up. Commissions are not part of WADA, they just use their code as a baseline for their rules. If they were under WADA, Diaz would have not been suspended for so long.

Testosterone IS a steroid. Most 2nd year bio students could tell you that. Why are you such a hater? I have never read one positive comment from you. You attack everybody (anonymously I might add) and I’m not sure why? To make yourself feel important maybe?

I guess if you feel the writers are illiterate and you are so much more informed and eloquent then throw your name on something you have written.

Either way I don’t always disagree with the points you make, you just don’t have to be a snot nosed pretentious pr!ck all of the time. Then again if that’s what makes you happy keep the negativity rolling. Happy Canada day everybody!
