I wonder if those ankle braces give hioki any kind of grip advantage on the ground.
a little bit, but they’re also easier to grip if you’re going for a sub
Close fight
So far two full rounds of guida hopping around instead of fighting WTF!!!
this is getting ridiculous
Clay is totally standing in front of Gray in that picture….He totaly ran away during the fight.
Man i went into that fight liking guida but def not anymore , and I hated maynard going into this fight but i have a lot more respect for him now. Guida literally just ran away from a title shot.
Judge 2, 48-47 Guida…BOOOOOOOOO!!! HA HA. (pretty smart fans actually).
No Way Clay on a fourth fight. You had your chance(s) already.
Guida looked like Dominick Cruz! No way he lost that fight!
I had guida winning didn’t enjoy the gameplan but I thought it worked for him
It was def close but the reason he didn’t win is cuz of what Kenny Florian eluded to, that he had to actually set something up with all that movement .
You can’t just dance around like that the entire fight, he never looked for takedowns and he only through like one punch at a time and the majority were ineffective jabs. He rarely threw any hard punches at all . The first 3 rounds were completely unacceptable.
I think that a lot of halfway decent mma fighters could have executed that game plan on gray maynard he barely did anything.
As I said on twitter, Guida forgot one of the key components of the “slip and rip” tactic, and that’s the rip.
Guida shoulda done more tiny leg kicks like Carlos Condit
And I didn’t even have it close. I had 49-46 for guida. Sorry the fight wasn’t entertaining but he went into win. Not risk it. The UFC just went ahead and hired the judges from the Pacquaio-Brafley fight
Guida won the fight even though it was ugly. UFC is getting more and more like boxing. Sorry, its just getting old.
idk man, i think there is a reason that Mirgliota had to stop the fight to tell him to stop running.
Do u people really think a guy who’s biggest weapon in the fight was frustrating his opponent to death with movement should win the fight
Carlos Condit
Condit landed a ton more strikes than Guida (159 to 49), Guida did not connect on many of his shots (14% of his strikes). Huge difference.
Dana white just said that he had it as a dominant win for Maynard he said it shouldn’t have been close.
DID NOT like it but I had Guida winning! I lost ALOT of respect for Guida who was in my top 5 favorites.. O well!
WAR FRANKIE
I originally had it for Guida hands down but then as I thought about it and watched it again, Guida didn’t do a whole lot. Because of his foot work and moving around it made him seem like the dominate fighter but really, other than the second round Maynard actually landed more shots, almost had Guide submitted, and had a takedown in the last round. And even know Guida was running, Maynard still had octagon control almost the entire fight.
In my eyes Maynard should have gotten 49-46 UD.
That was one of the biggest main event disgraces in UFC history and for you guys that think guida won, go back and watch the fight again. There is no way you reward a guy for literally running in circles and throwing 20 punches a round. We all know Guida has INCREDIBLE cardio but I don’t know why anyone would think that alone is going to win you a fight that could potentially vault you into a title shot. Maynard pushed the fight, landed knees, attempted takedowns and had more effective striking as a whole. Guida used to be one of my faves because he has a wildly aggressive style, but this was a joke. He used his “gameplan” to frustrate Gray but never did anything with it. I was so happy that Gray took the decision because I had no idea which was it was going to go.
Agree 100%, if u only throw 20 strikes a round when ur mixing in takedown attempts or going for the clinch , but if u have ur opponent literally running after u the entire fight mostly with wild haymakers, then u have to throw some counters.
Watching the fight live I kept thinking to myself that A:any fighter in the UFC, maybe in the whole world couldve executed that same gameplan to perfection.and B: it seems like guida was afraid to really FIGHT Gray.
lose respect for guida ? are you crazy…..for once in his life he tried to be smart about his fight instead of going in and brawling just too lose. Guida is and always will be one of the most entertaining ufc fighters ever. Hell even during rounds he lets out the nastiest Belch hahaha. He straight out won that fight.
C.Condit won via running (sure he struck more then guida)
D.Cruz still the champion via running
Listen Im not a big fan of dominick cruz or the style that condit used against Nick Diaz but the way that guida fought last night was on a whole new level.
Please explain how u think he won this fight.
When your opponent stands completely still right in front of you with his hands down and is asking for you to hit him in the face and u still cant hurt him and then u choose to dive in for a takedown and still cant get it that is embarassing.
Like Dana white said after the fight it wasnt even a close fight Maynard won easy
For all the people who think guida won then what gameplan do u think could possibly take advantage of a guy whos main goal is avoiding a fight.
Maynard outstruck guida in rounds 3 4 and 5 and had a good guiollitine attemt in one of those rounds not to mention a little half of a takedown on the fence , and on top of all that he was the agressor and had octagon control the entire fight.
So how should he have lost?
