Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira’s still healing broken arm will keep the MMA legend from facing Cheick Kongo at UFC 149. Stepping in for Nogueira will be former LSU football player Shawn Jordan. Sherdog first reported the switch.
Jordan is coming off a win in his UFC debut versus Oli Thompson at UFC on FX 2. The Jackson’s MMA fighter will looking for his fifth win in his last six bouts when he faces Kongo.
Kongo is coming off a devastating loss to Mark Hunt at UFC 144. Before losing to Hunt, Kongo had not lost since being defeated by Frank Mir.
UFC 149 takes place July 21 live from the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta. The card will be headlined by an interim bantamweight title fight between Urijah Faber and Renan Barao. The card will also mark the debut of former Bellator middleweght champion Hector Lombard as he faces Tim Boetsch.

Some of the these UFC cards are getting worse by the day. This is another Card I’m crossing off the “to buy” list.
Thats too bad. I always look forward to seeing Nog get his asss kicked…..guess we will have to wait just a little longer…
I think you would have waited till Nog’s next fight to see him get his asss kicked…Kongo doesn’t have the chops for it.
he just had the striking/reach/size advantage not necessarily the chops.
Yah, too bad for the fans, Big nog vs Congo could have been a nice scrap, however, hope cheick pulls this one out.
It seems like the UFC changed something, perhaps booking fights more often for the extra events or whatever, but I never remember so much constant change. It’s actually a terrible look, and getting kinda old.
On another note, I love this guy Shawn Jordan, he is a savage and I think he beats Kongo and quickly moves up the ranks.
Worst card ever, other than the main event (that’s for a made up title) none of the guys on the main card are even top 5 in their divisions. Only good part is now the scalpers who snatched up all the tickets are crying the blues.
Kongo’s problem is that he cant take a punch off a big heavyweight. Height and reach advantage means nothing if the second your opponent lands a shot your chicken legs give way. Roy Nelson should of stepped in for an easy pay day. at least it would make the card a bit more high profile.
I think Jordan has what it takes to beat Kongo and Nog, so personally I’m glad he gets this chance. Kongo is a legit gate keeper now, and Jordan is about to run thru it.
