UFC on Fuel TV 5 Update: Stefan Struve vs. Stipe Miocic as Nottingham’s Main Event

On September 29, the UFC will return to Nottingham, England and it appears the card will be headlined by a heavyweight fight between Stipe Miocic and Stefan Struve. Gareth Davies, ESPN’s UFC podcast host, announced the move via twitter.

Struve verified the news via twitter as well, stating:

Fighting Stipe Miocic in the main event of UFC Fuel 5! Happy to come back to Fight in Europe, proud to be main event! It’s gonna be great! Can’t wait to be Fighting in front of family, friends, fans and so on! Love Fighting in the UK it feels like home and I’m super PUMPED!!!!!!

Both fighters are coming off wins against former Strikeforce fighters at UFC 146. Struve was victorious after he broke Lavar Johnson’s arm in first round, while Miocic pounded out Shane Del Rosario on the card as well.

The September 29 card, expected to be named UFC on Fuel TV 5, is also expected to feature fighters Brad Pickett and Andy Ogle. Nottingham’s own Dan Hardy is also expected to be a lock for the event.

I could be wrong, but I’m guessing the British won’t be overly happy about this being the main event. I’m interested in this bout and think Struve will get the sub victory.

I see it the other way… Miocic by knockout

  • FedRedNinja says:

Win or lose, Struve always takes his lumps early in the first and either wakes him up or puts him to sleep. His fights are always exciting. I see a war like when he fought Buentello.

Like both fighters a lot, but I’ll take Miocic by dec.

Agreed, I don’t think that anyone wants to end up in Struve’s guard right now , unless he hurts him bad to put him there first.
I think struve will pick him apart from the outside much like del rosario was against him and he will look to take him down.

I think this is a worthy main event for a fuel card. I like Struve and people tend to forget because he’s had a ton of fights that this kid is only 24 and hes constantly improving. Stipe on the other hand has looked nothing short of spectacular since coming over to the ufc. Should be a great fight, definitely looking forward to this one.

Yeah Struve in the main event…This card should be live. UFC in the afternoon. Hopefully Sportsnet in Canada will show it live.

Late September is the start of real sports. IE Hockey and Major Junior Hockey!

Good fight but for a main event you have to be joking. There is no chance in hell am paying £150 to watch this live, once again nice one dana cheers for that great event….please note the sarcasm

  • The1 says:

Unlike some people I would pay money to see this event if I lived in Britain. Struve and Miocic are big up and comers and will put on a great fight. Pickett and hardy are good fighters also. It will be a good card of lesser known fighters but still good fighters.

I agree completely. I’m from the UK and have been to most of the cards that have been put on ever here. The previous cards have been awash with the same old faces & meaningless fights, I mean it was great to see Randy fight in Manchester a couple of years back but in the grand scheme of things Randy vs Vera was hardly something that made the mouthy water.

In the past i’ve moaned like f*** on these pages as regards the lack of variety and sub-standard cards on these shores but in Struve & Miocic we do have a couple of movers in the division that could easily get title shots in 2 or 3 fights time.

  • Anthony says:

I was going to pay 250 for ring side seats but rather not now i know the main event! its a let down considering when i watched in manchester we had randy!! utter Bull crap!!
