Here we go again… for the second time this year, a UFC bout has seen an athletic commission muddle up the results to a fight.
After soundly dominating Carlos Eduardo Rocha for three rounds, The Oregonian looked looked just as perplexed as all those watching when one judge rendered a unanimous 30-27 for his opponent.
Pierce who had been coming off of a contentious decision loss to Josh Koscheck, was relieved to find that this the pendulum swung in his favor regardless of a shoddy judging. Judge Rick Bays confirmed that he scored the bout for the wrong corner and asked for a correction after the bout. Four days later, the mistake has been rectified. Yet, an error of this caliber happening twice within the span of three months says a lot about the current state of judging in our young sport.

Gross. But good to hear that it got righted.

“Judge Rick Bays confirmed that he scored the bout for the wrong corner and asked for a correction after the bout.”
Soooo the judge was correct in that visually he knew who won the fight and had the score how it should have been, he just scored it for the wrong corner. And upon realizing his mistake, before the final decision is read, brings it up and asks for a correction, and the scores are brought to Buffer as is. Hmmmm, what could possibly be so hard about making the correction beforehand? We’ve all seen some very shoddy judging, almost as if they were sleeping through the fight and just flipped a coin when they woke up. Now we all make mistakes, but this guy realized his mistake, actually knew who won, and after bringing it up it isn’t fixed? What if one of the other judges was one of these sleepers and upon awakening from a deep slumber the coin flipped in favour of Rocha? I know the decision would have been eventually fixed but this is rediculous.
Cool thanks guys!
