The UFC is looking to move into new markets around the globe and it appears they have their sites set on South Africa next. UFC President Dana White announced the move during the UFC 150 conference call. White cited the strong viewership numbers for a local promotion as the reason for the move.
The promotion, Extreme Fighting Championships, has averaged around 1.2 million viewers per show per reports. The promotion earned over 1.6 million viewers at a show in March, accounting for nearly 26% of the television viewing audience. South Africa is home to former UFC fighter and current Super Fight League fighter Trevor Prangley.
Also on the call, White reiterated the promotion still intends to put on a show in India some time soon. India served as the host for the aforementioned Super Fight League and currently has the second largest population in the world.
