Bellator officials have announced a pair of welterweight match-ups for the second of three installments of Bellator’s upcoming “Summer Series”. Bellator 72 will emanate from the USF Sun Dome in Tampa, Florida.
Anchoring the card will be the season-six welterweight tournament final between Bryan Baker (18-3) and Karl Amoussou (15-4-2). “The Beast”, undefeated since moving to welterweight, seeks an elusive tournament title behind his recent run, which saw the judoka take decision victories over Carlos Alexandre Pereira and UFC veteran Ben Saunders.
Amoussou, currently riding hot on a three fight win-streak blasted through Chris Lozano in the opening round, submitting the seasoned veteran with a rear-naked choke. The semifinals saw the Frenchman meet some opposition, as he and David Rickels battled back and forth for 15 minutes. At the final bell, judges rendered a contentious split decision for the “Psycho”.
Also on the bill, a third meeting between Waachim Spiritwolf (9-10-1) and Marius Zaromskis (17-6). With both meetings have ended in quite calamitous fashion, both fighters are looking to prove the definitive winner.
The two first met in the Strikeforce cage in 2010, where an errant finger from the Lithuanian caused a bad eyepoke, calling the bout a no contest in six short seconds.
A second meeting between the exciting welterweights saw a dominant performance by the Spiritwolf go to waste, as the bout was stopped between rounds due to a cut suffered by the San Diego native.
