Chad Griggs was scheduled to make his light heavyweight debut against Phil Davis this August at UFC on Fox 4 later this summer, but has been forced out of that bout with an injury.
MMAWeekly reports that undefeated Team Nogueira prospect Wagner Prado will be stepping up in Griggs’ place to challenge Davis.
Prado (7-0) has gone unchallenged so far in his professional career, with only one of his bouts ever making it to the final bell. Other than that, he’s tallied six wins by either KO or TKO, with only one of those fights making it out of the first round. Prado has spent the entirety of his career fighting in Brazil.
Davis (9-1) was on the fast track to a title shot after going undefeated in his first nine and picking up wins over the likes of Brian Stann, Alexander Gustafsson, Tim Boetsch and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira. Unfortunately for the former standout collegiate wrestler, a January bout for the number one contender’s spot opposite Rashad Evans didn’t go his way, resulting in the first loss of his pro career.
UFC on Fox 4 will take place on August 4 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
