Strikeforce: Rockhold vs Kennedy will emanate from the Rose Garden Arena in Portland, Oregon on July 14. The event boasts the long awaited titular bout between Strikeforce Midddleweight Champion Luke Rockhold and Tim Kennedy as the main event.
Strikeforce announced several bouts that will also be featured on the card earlier today.
Top contender Pat Healy (27-16) will take on DEEP Champion and former Sengoku titleholder Mizuto Hirota (14-4-1) in a lightweight bout. Healy, currently riding a four-fight winning streak, including the likes of Maximo Blanco and Lyle Beerbohm, most recently handed Carlos Fodor his first promotional loss at March’s Tate vs. Rousey event.
Hirota’s last two outings saw the Japanese fighter defend his DEEP championship against Katsunori Kikuno and Seichi Ikemoto. Prior to that, he was forced to give up his Sengoku Title after having his arm broken against Shinya Aoki in 2009. Given the state of Japanese MMA, it is likely in Hirota’s favor to try and put together a career stateside.
Welterweights Jordan Mein (24-8) and Tyler Stinson (23-8) will face off to battle their way back up the ladder of the division after recent setbacks. Mein, who is coming off a loss against title contender Tyron Woodley, holds victories over Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos and Marius Zaromskis inside the Strikeforce cage. Moore will be looking to bounce back after a loss against Tarec Saffiedine in his promotional debut.
Jason High (15-3) returns to action against Nate Moore (8-2). High, who comes in with the strength of a six-fight win-streak behind him, was last seen outpointing Todd Moore last September. Moore, who has been inactive for 16 months, was last seen pasting Nathan Coy in January of last year.
