UFC 146 kicked off tonight with a three-fight card live on Facebook. The early fights impressed as Glover Teixeira, Mike Brown, and Sass all looked good in victory. Stay tuned to MMAFrenzy as our coverage of UFC 146 continues throughout the night.
Sass uses Triangle Armbar to Finish Volkmann
Paul Sass quickly pulled guard on Jacob Volkmann to get the fight to the mat. While Volkmann is usually comfortable on the mat, he left his hand on the mat just a second too long and Sass pounced. Sass expertly trapped Volkmann’s arm with his right leg and then readjusted to grab a triangle position. While Volkmann went to stack and defend, Sass trapped his arm and Volkmann was forced to tap.
Teixeira Dominates Kingsbury
It took several years and a lot of headaches but Glover Teixeira finally made his octagon debut and he was impressive against Kyle Kingsbury. Teixeira utilized his powerful striking to drop Kingsbury. Teixeira took mount from that point and pounded on Kingbury. Eventually, Kingsbury extended his arm in an attempt to roll out of mount but gave up an arm-triangle instead and he quickly tapped.
Brown Edges Pineda
Former WEC champion Mike Brown was tested by Daniel Pineda but out-fought him in the end to gain the decision. The fight will likely be Mike Brown’s last fight ever, as Joe Rogan mentioned that Brown had decided to retire prior to tonight’s fight. Brown is looking to move into coaching after a stellar fight career.
