TUF coach Urijah Faber will face Renan Barao for the interim UFC bantamweight crown. UFC President Dana White announced the decision on TUF: Live earlier tonight.
While the UFC clearly wanted to go for a surprise by having multiple bantamweights tweet reminders to watch TUF tonight on FX, the surprise apparently did not work according to White.
Faber had been set to fight fellow TUF coach Dominick Cruz in the rubber match of their rivalry until an injury forced Cruz to withdraw.
UFC 148 is headlined by a UFC middleweight title rematch between rivals Chael Sonnen and champion Anderson Silva. Faber vs. Barao will be the co-headlining fight that evening. The card will take place July 7 in Las Vegas.

Renan Barao is gonna whoop him
I’m sorry but faber is going DOWN. This dude is a complete savage. Faber and Cruz may fight again one may, but it prob won’t be for the belt lol. Barao could beat Cruz in my opinion too, and if so have this belt for a while…
Where does Faber go from here? (Yes, he has already lost this fight).
125 lol
