Arlovski, Rothwell Ready To Brawl At Affliction “Banned”
There are a number of reasons not to miss the mega mixed martial arts extravaganza, “Affliction Banned,†this July 19th at Honda Center in Anaheim, California — not least of which is the unbelievable main event — a dream match-up between heavyweight champs Fedor Emilianenko and Tim Sylvia. But the list of transcendent fight talent doesn’t end there. In one of the biggest cards in the history of the sport, the inaugural fight event of Affliction Entertainment will feature an unprecedented line-up of the best MMA combatants competing against each other, including a brutal, full contact bout between the two heavyweight powerhouses, Andrei “The Pitbull†Arlovski and “Big†Ben Rothwell.
Former UFC Heavyweight Champion Andrei Arlovski is a 6’ 4â€, 240-pound former cop from Belarus with dangerous stand up skills, a brutal right punch, and deft mobility and striking accuracy. Arlovski tears into his opponents, often dealing out devastating damage before the other fighter even has time to recover. Considered one of the top ten ranked heavyweight fighters in the world, “The Pitbull†is one of the world’s most complete MMA fighters, as well as one of its most fearsome. This dreaded competitor gets high marks in grappling ability and massive striking power. He has won notable victories over Tim Sylvia, Paul Buentello, Vladimir Matyushenko, Fabricio Werdum and Wesley “Cabbage†Correira, among others. For his upcoming fight with Rothwell, Arlovski has been training with legendary boxing trainer Freddie Roach, who has trained many boxing champions such as Mike Tyson, Oscar De La Hoya, Bernard Hopkins and Manny Pacquiao. Arlovski’s hard work combined with sheer talent and strong mental preparedness give his opponents plenty to worry about in the ring.
Arlovski will face-off with former IFL heavyweight standout Ben Rothwell, who is riding an impressive 13-fight winning streak and is currently ranked as the number 10 best heavyweight fighter in the world. At 6′5″ and 265 pounds, this gritty, determined Wisconsin native is a force to reckon with in the ring—just ask anyone who has squared off against him. A young fighter full of zest and energy and a personality as big as his frame, Rothwell is one of the most entertaining athletes in MMA—Rothwell never fails to deliver. And he has an impeccable record, rattling off11 knockouts among his first 17 MMA victories with a flair that crowds eat up. A wicked combination of aggression, power and style drives Rothwell’s numerous victories. The sheer force with which this giant strikes his opponents leads to the frequent knockouts he is famous for. But his brute strength is tempered by a good measure of agility, allowing him to inflict accurate and precise punishment. “Big†Ben’s fierce ring presence and heavy-handedness often has opponents voluntarily choosing to leave the ring to avoid serious injury.
The brawl between the ferocious “Pitbull†and giant “Big†Ben is sure to please sports fans hungry for a truly ballistic competition and a performance full of charisma. These two magnetic, world-class fighters always put on a great show. With their collective striking power and bigger-than-life personalities, these well-matched opponents combine powerful fighting techniques with a spark of showmanship that electrifies their audience. Both fighters are known for their tremendous hard-hitting styles and numerous victories. Their bouts often end in knockouts — explosive, expedient, and purely exciting. “Affliction Banned,†headlined by the WAMMA heavyweight title bout between Russian superstar Fedor Emelianenko and Tim Sylvia, is stacked with so much world-class talent that it had to be separated into two live shows produced for broadcast. Come on Andre, win this and come back to the ufc
I would even pay 100 bucks for this amazing event.
I am looking forward to watching the tape.I have a feeling it will be syndicated like Art of War…
I am looking forward to it too! Maybe a crack at the winner of the Timmy and Fedor fight goes to the winner of this one.
IM STILL GONNA WATCH THE UFC… I DON’T WANNA SPEND MONEY ON THAT YEAH ITS A GOOD CARD BUT THERE ALL OLD TYMERZ IM MORE INTERESTED IN THE UFC FIGHT CARD
I hope The Pitbull wins this one. This should be a great fight though. Rothwell can really make some noise with a big win over Arlovski.
Have to pull for Arlovski in this one…
i realize that fedor is a good fighter he just seems so overated all the time. so as much as i dont like tim i hope that he beats fedor that way it may take some hype away from couture vs fedor
Arlovski will do fine in this one. It’s only a matter of 1-2 wins before he ends up in the UFC again. Then what will Affliction do with one less UFC vet to brag about? Affliction is to the UFC as the XFL was to the NFL……..a very funny yet confusing joke.
On another note: My predicition is that Fedor and Tim go the distance to a decision after a slow boring match. I’m not prediciting the winner…just a long boring match. I bet the highlight of the night will be MegaDeth! With all the talk about the UFC getting worried about the uprise of Affliction, I am amazed no one has thrashed Affliction for signing a band to what was suppose to be the “best HW fight card ever.” Why do you need a famous metal band to enhance your fight card when you have all these “great” HWs? F Affliction for trying to decieve me. I will not parttake in their games and the sooner they go under the better. I have no problem with other MMA promotions as long as they don’t start ridiculous nonsense like Elite XC and Affliction. In my opinion, Dream and Shooto will outlast Elite and Affliction. I feel this way because Elite and Affliction seem to be run more by people interested in money and not the sport. Eventually they will cash out or screw up.
I admitt Affliction has a great card for july 19th. But who else have they signed? Even if this event does well they won’t be able to consistantly have these stunning fight cards.
Megadeath just gives me more of a reason to watch it. It’s pretty funny that some of you guys are so afraid of what Affliction might do. You should watch it for the fights, who cares what they do behind the curtin. Old haha that’s dumb, How old is UFC poster boy chuck again? I hope Fedor some how drops to 205 and finds a way to get a fight with Anderson Silva so he can destroy him. GO JAMES IRVIN!!!
Spud
What do you think Affliction might do? I accept they have a great HW division and in my opinion the best p4p fighter in the world in Fedor, thats no small matter, buts that it.
All the best LW, WW, MW, LH in the world fight in the ufc and unless there’s a mass exodus of fighters thats the way it will continue. Unless your a HW for a serious fighter there’s only one place to prove themselves and thats the ufc
Fedor is awsome !!!
the last few arlovski fights have been so so. I’m pulling for big ben since he’s the underdog on this one.
I gotta go with Arlovski minus the two wins big tim got em he’s been solid, and can big tim jab out a victory against Fedor, I’m might be a losing man but I’m betting on it
Spud,
If you really like MegaDeth that much they have a tour coming up very soon. I like to pay money for MMA PPV events…..not concerts. I like to see concerts live not on PPV. MegaDeth is just a crutch to the game Affliction thought it could play and cannot. Everyone keeps saying the UFC and fans are scared or worried. That’s BS! The UFC is on top and has nearly 100PPVs plus other free events. Affliction has not held its first event and the pool of talent is not even close to that of the UFC. If MegaDeth is more of a reason to watch, I question if you truly love MMA or just enjoy watcing fights….you tell me. By the way, Anderson would beat Fedor. Fedor is badass but Anderson is the new badass guy on the block. We’ll probably never ever see the two fight but as badass as Fedor is, I do not see him beating Silva. Maybe…..you never know.
KOuch,
I’m a UFC guy all the way and have been for a long time & could care less if Affliction lives or dies after this event…my point is as soon as I saw the fight card I knew it was something I would pay to see, whether it was UFC, DREAM or unfortunatly ELITE XC and in my case I’m lucky enough to live in Anaheim so I was stoked and bought tickets about a month before they said Megadeath was even playing. Then when I found that out I looked forward to it even MORE! It seems like you have a huge hard-on for Affliction’s demise like they’re hoarding in on your turf or something. Why are you so suprised that nobody is bashing affliction for having Megadeath play? BECAUSE IT ONLY ADDS TO THE ENTERTAINMENT VALUE DUH!!! if I knew before I bought the tickets that I was gonna get to see 11 good fights AND megadeath also I would’ve bought more tickets than I did. Try putting into perspective the fact that this is their FIRST EVENT! and if them packing in a live concert instead of recorded music like the ufc plays in between bouts ANYWAY is something you can’t apparently stand that’s great don’t buy the PPV and feel justified ’cause you made a STAND and boycotted Affliction but for me it just makes me feel like I’m getting most importantly in times like these MY MONEY’S WORTH!!! there’s my two cent’s now I’ll shut up about it…LOL
Looking forward to a great card with many fine fights. Dana should produce more for tv events along with his ppv’s. I would like Fedor to win and then fight Frank Mir or the UFC Champ.
i don’t understand how any fans of the sport can pass on this event. I’ll be recording the ufc and watching affliction that night.
I think they are advertising the MEgadeath because they don’t know if they can draw a casual MMA crowd. If Megadeath was the deciding factor I would buy the concert tickets. MMA live is best on the floor and within 30ft from the cage unless you have never been at all.
affliction is going to be sick.
the UFC fight night is going to suck, its obvious james irvin going to get knocked out.!!!
GOOO AFFLICTION!
