Urijah Faber Responds to Cruz Injury

Urijah Faber had been looking forward to fighting fellow TUF Live coach, and bantamweight champion, Dominick Cruz at UFC 148 until a knee injury shelved Cruz. Faber has released a video response to Cruz’s injury.
Stay tuned to MMAFrenzy as Cruz’s replacement for TUF and UFC 148 are expected to be announced soon.

I like how Urijah is doing his best Ed Soares and saying “who’s next in line” for a possible interim title shot. LOL It surprised me that he mentioned Renan Barao first. IMO Renan is a much tougher fight for Faber then Mayday. Barao imo will win his next fight and challenge for the title. He is a talented dude who’s got a well rounded game. People will criticize his performance against Scott Jorgensen but I actually think it was a tough fight because Jorgensen is a good fighter as well.
I admire that Urijah wants to fight but i don’t like this interim title business. It means NOTHING. Take a look at condit’s situation. The dude is “the interim champ” but is not doing $hit during while GSP is out. He’s waiting around. That defeats the purpose of why an interim champ is put in place to begin with.
If Urijah wants to fight, great! But please Dana, no more fake, shiny souvenirs…
Mayday is the better choice right now. He’s a legit contender, and he took no damage vs torres. He’s also made a name for himself so I think that fight vs Faber would attract more attention than a fight with faber vs barao.
Sucks the Cruz is out. Hope the dude recovers!

The whole Interim champion is just them saying #1 Contender really. It’s stupid and even those this isn’t about him, yes, Condit SHOULD be fighting another one before GSP if they want to put “champ” in front of his name whether it’s Interim or Undisputed. GSP and Cruz have been exceptions because they’ve been soooooo dominate. These guys should be called the Champ and whoever the “interim” is, should be known as #1 contender, for these instances. If a guy wins and then gets hurt and has to take a long period off, then he should get the belt taken, and when he’s healthy he has the option to fight the champ at that time.
Until the interim champ possibly beats the returning champ. Then it goes from being a whatever you call it to someone who has beaten the champ AND defended it against the #2 contender, albeit before the champ returns. So beating both the #1 and #3 is in conclusion, maybe worth omething after all.
I’m actually a Cruz guy, but after watching the show I really respect faber a lot more. Both these guys are class acts personality wise and as coaches. And I think faber was very classy in this video.Hope Cruz recovers quickly and fights either Barao (if he fights faber cuz I think Barao wins that fight) or faber (if he fights McDonald, cuz I think faber wins that fight). However there will likely be multiple fights cuz acls can take a year.
I don’t have a problem with interim, especially when the real champ is so clearly the champ like GSP or Cruz. It truly is like the honorary number one contender crown, but its cool with me, cuz its better than nothing. And since the real champ wasn’t technically beaten he can’t lose it.
