Affliction Marketing: Will Dana Mind?

Affliction Advertising

Ignoring the overall cheesiness of the advertisement, one will notice that Affliction has apparently decided that its okay to use a competing promotion’s spiteful president as a reference. It could be a simple oversight, or Affliction could be slipping in as many subtle jabs as they can at the older bullies in the playground. I can only hope its the latter.

  • rutdog says:

The UFC president (Dana), 1 UFC champ (Rampage), 1 sorda UFC chanp (Couture), 1 LHW UFC contender (Wanderlei), the most popular UFC/MMA ref-man ever(Macarthy), and one of the UFC’s highly paid and publicized announcers (Rogan). Wow, yeah, I think that was on purpose.

  • mburtoni says:

Smart move by Affliction – could help draw casual UFC viewers away from the freebie A. Silva fight on the 19th. Why not use the UFC against itself?

  • JustJoe says:

I thought Spider was the best fighter P4P? LOL

  • buddy says:

dana’s been saying fedor isnt a top five heavyweight for over a year and that he hasnt fought anyone of any significance in a while so this quote must have been from a long time ago, but i still think that its awesome marketing.

  • jpm says:

Ha ha, i’ll bet Dana is seriously p*ssed. I have to say though, each point is correct as far as i’m concerned.

  • jwilly84us says:

Facts are facts. Pride was very over-rated and we have seen when the Pride fighters have stepped in against the UFC fighters they have come up short. I hate Tim Sylvia, but he might just expose Fedor and the we will all here it was because he has not fought in over a year against quality opponents. Cro-Cop, Shogun Rua, and Wanderlie have found out the hard way. Pride was only good because everyone fought everyone. But when you are fighting the same guys two or three times, how competative is it really. Affliction has one division (Heavyweight) and nothing else. UFC will still be in business in a year, but with the amount of money Affliction is spending on contracts I would not expect them to be around any longer than 6 months. Kimbo’s a hack!

  • huertarogerhuerta says:

that quote is dana talkin bout randy not fedor ive neva heard dana say fedor was the top heavyweight but i have heard him use that quote to describe randy a million times… pretty sneaky affliction

  • jpm says:

    jwilly84us

What are you talking about, Pride fighters struggle in the ufc???? The current ufc heavyweight, light heavyweight and middleweight champions are all former pride standouts

  • JustJoe says:

F affliction, and their 80 dollar t-shirts! Why anyone would pay 80 bucks to walk around looking like a d-bag is beyond me.

  • KOuch says:

Oh no…..Affliction is really comin’ through….uh oh…..Dana and The UFC better be worried……WoW…..ohhhh…aahhhhh

Man, F Affliction. Why is it every other promotion has to announce 1000 f-n times that a fighter on their card is a former UFC vet or make a UFC connection? The answer is that all other promotions just cannot get the job done the way the UFC does. Affliction’s attempts to hype up their PPV are turning me away more and more. To me Affliction is Elite XC part 2 and it will just be a matter of time before they start looking pathetic. This move does absolutely nothing for Affliction and should not bother the UFC at all. Affliction tried to play hardball and they see no light at the end of the tunnel. Who cares what the Donald says anyway? He’s only been an investor of MMA for 1 1/2 months and doesn’t know ****! Affliction has not even had their first event and I see them fearing their future.

  • Dannyboy says:

I still don’t see why you guys are hating on another promotion that will do nothing but better the sport of MMA. Once again…sad and pathetic. True fans of MMA should be looking forward to people trying to finally compete with the UFC.

  • Dave, Md says:

They must be hurting for ticket sales.. I think its funny as $hit that they have to use the UFC in there promotion

  • joel b says:

its a pretty bold move but what is dana gonna do?????….nothing!

  • joel b says:

    dannyboy,

come on you got to know that when the ufc held the monoply then yes it was about the sport because the buisness is the sport but now there is competition which means the sport has done well but now its strictly the survival of the ufc i believe there should be only one big organization cause i dont like these cross organizational rivalries like fedor and coulture its like picking one football team over the other when they will never play eachother style makes fights you cant say oh he beat so and so that means he will be this guy it doesnt work and leaves to many questions for the fans

this other organizations are doing well for themselves but they are making a bunch of questions for the hardcore fans. now if you just want to see fights and care nothing for the fighters then all these companies will be great for you. but not me now there is 50 champs but no one really knows who is the real champ of the sport who wins the SUPERBOWL so to speak.

  • Krav138 says:

Well this was a ballsy move by affliction, but whenever UFC retaliates its means more free fights or somthin good so let affliction keep pushin they wont win

  • Dietrich says:

I love watching someone battle a monopoly. Because in times like these the customers/fans benefit. We will probably get several more free shows as long as Affliction is in business. This quoting thing can work both ways and we all know White has the library.

  • D P says:

    i feel a lawsuit coming

  • Dietrich says:

Lawsuits are for when no one is watching.War the public display of Antipathy between Zuffa and Affliction!

  • scott says:

First of all, i have never heard dana white say in public .Dana said that Randy would destroy Fedor ,so he can file a lawsuit .Oh yeah it is a fact that 90 percent of pride fighters struggled in ufc almost everyone lost in their debut ,and rampage didn’t look good in his first match he won but i believe it was a stoppage in the 3rd round.Fedor could be the real deal ,but i doubt it.Why does it seems he is scared to fight in a cage ,and a true competitor wants to beat all of the people that are considered at the top ,we all know ufc is considered the top,he should only want to fight there but he is not.Look at Randy he wants only Fedor, but Fedor is not going after him ,why is that?

  • rutdog says:

Scott, I believe that Fedor is doing what almost every other fighter is doing, that is going where the money is. yes, I know everyone talks about how they only want to fight the best, yeah, yeah, well, the best heavyweights are not in the UFC now. They are all over the map, so Fedor is getting the money while the money is there. I like it, smart move on his part.

  • KOuch says:

    Dannyboy,

I hate the people running Affliction but not the fighters. I respect the fighters….even boring Tim Sylvia. My problem is that Affliction has tried to come across as the next big thing and they are yet to hold their first event. Afflction is just getting it’s KARMA for starting their own promotion after building popularity through the UFC and Elite XC. In general, Heavy Weights are USUALLY slow and can be boring…NOT ALWAYS…….BUT…….HWs is what Affliction offers as far as talent goes. To me, it will get old very fast watching a promotion supported by a HW division.

  • Sean says:

Everyone knows Dana said that.. and everyone also knows that when Dana doesn’t get what he wants thats when the bashing starts…

  • tekestar says:

I think the poster is funny but not effective, except that it has us talking about it, but the casual fan will probably not even look twice at it since there is really nothing captivating about the look of it. No pictures of fighters, etc.

However, I do hope they succeed enough to be able to put on a few more shows because I think this is really the best heavyweight card ever. The only thing missing is cro-cop and randy.

Here is me waiting until october… Randy vs Fedor

  • demon says:

    scott

are you serious? this has been said so many times i cant believe your forcing me to say it again. The UFC treat their fighters like **** because theyre the only org, they have a monopoly. so when dana gave the ****ty contract to fedor that said he couldnt compete in combat sambo (which he cares about more than mma), that he couldnt get out of the contract till he lost or retired, blah blah blah, fedor told him to **** off. Anyway, it doesnt make sense to dodge UFC fighters then agree to fight 2 time ufc champ under another banner, does it? oh wait, yes it does, cos that means he can fight decent fighters (like, say, no.4 in the world) and not be tied down to white and his bull****.
As for the fight with randy, wow, a 44 year old with a 16-8 record wants to solidify his mma legacy by fighting the no.1 fighter! shocking. who doesnt wanna fight fedor, as soon as your no.1, everyone wants a piece of you because your the man to beat. randy says hes doing it cos its wat the fans want. bull****. its wat YOU want, randy.

  • rage says:

    scott,

The reason why Fedor did not go to the UFC is because UFC will not let a contracted fighter fight in any other organization unlike all of the other promotions. Fedor’s manager has Fedor fight in Russia as they evolve the sport there. UFC is a cock block to this ****ing sport. With only one promotion where will all the fighters besides the 200-250 UFC fighters make a living? UFC is the worst thing that could happen for fighters and I guess the best thing to happen for the piece of **** Dana.

  • JAI says:

The add looks very cheesie, but can believe, they put this out on purpose due to the fact that most of these quotes are from actual employees of the UFC.

Sean I agree with you man. Dana always does bashes people when he can’t get them signed. the only person that I do not remember him bashing is Takonari Gomi after not being able to sign him.

  • Dannyboy says:

    Kouch, Joel B,

I understand both your points but I disagree with the way of handling it. Mentioning a football reference really hurts your case because if dana would stop being such a douchebag and allow cross promotion fights then we WOULD have ‘teams’ playing other ‘teams’ just like in Football. But he won’t. He’s greedy… He wants the UFC to BE MMA. It’s not…it’s too late Dana… it won’t happen. Yes you were the man by getting all this started, yes you are the man by continuing to put together great cards and awesome fights… but you are NOT the man for trying to single handedly destroy any other promotion that gets in your way.

Harsh business practices? NO… BAD ETHICS.

  • Spud says:

The poster is working it’s getting us to talk. UFC doesn’t have all the best fighters, not by far. If it was only the UFC and no other promotions, that means no Fedor, no Gomi, no Arlovski, no sylvia, no Barnett, no Trigg, no good guys that fight in the IFL, no Couture, no Tito, I can keep going. I hope Affliction makes a killing on the 19th and are able to pay to get more good fighters.

  • blane says:

i think tim has a great shot at this i think he will win the stand up if fedor gets it down he has the advantage i guess i would have to call fedor but i think its going to be a good one.
