The speculation can be put to rest: Hector Lombard will be facing off against Brian Stann in his UFC debut. UFC president Dana White tweeted the news earlier today. MMAJunkie reports that the match up is likely for UFC on Fox 4, which is rumored to take place on August 4 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
Having vacated his Bellator middleweight championship to join the UFC’s middleweight ranks, Lombard (31-2-1, 1 NC) will ride into his fight with Stann on a twenty-fight winning streak (though it should be kept in mind that Lombard’s biggest wins on that streak are over Brian Ebersole, Kalib Starnes, Joe Doerksen and Trevor Prangley). Having long been considered the best middleweight not under Zuffa control, the former Olympic judoka is expected to shake things up in his new promotional home.
The heavy hitting Cuban will have to get past Brian Stann first, which is no easy task.
Brian “The All-American” Stann (12-4) has taken on some of the UFC’s stiffest middleweight competition, with his only loss in the division coming by way of submission against Chael Sonnen. To rebound from that fight, Stann knocked Alessio Sakara out cold earlier this month at UFC on Fuel TV 2.
