Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney has revealed that Season Five Middleweight Tournament winner Alexander Shlemenko will face the winner of this season’s tournament final between Andreas Spang and Maiquel Falcao for the middleweight title. Rebney announced the move via twitter.
Shlemenko was expected to face now-former champion Hector Lombard this season but with Lombard vacating the title for the UFC, it only made since for Shlemenko to battle the Season Six tournament champion.
Since winning the Season Five tournament, Shlemenko has hardly been inactive as the Russian fighter has notched wins over Julio Paulino and a devastating TKO of Ikuhisa “Minowaman” Minowa.
Andreas Spang and Maiquel Falcao will meet at Bellator 70 on May 25 in New Orleans. It can be expected that Shlemenko will be in attendance for the traditional face-off that will hopefully not end with an incident this time.

id like to see falcao and lombard… thanks for fucking that up falcao, and good luck in the ufc lombard
I bet somebody’s getting shoved…
Shlemenko will now reign supreme over the division. Good for him!
Shlem recently got into the car accident, nobody knows how long would him take to get back to his best shape. I hope he would be ready when the time comes, but we will see.
everything I saw on the accident showed injuries that should not be too damaging to his career. It’s possible that he could be at the end of the summer series or to kick off season 7
@ChrisL
“everything I saw on the accident showed injuries that should not be too damaging to his career.”
You are right it’s no identification of something serious, but just recently being a witness of less serious issues (just simple hand break) that got unproperly treated by one of the doctors in Vegas will get somebody sidelined from proper training for more than 3 month. I’m sure you seen it a lot of times by yourself. This why I said I hope this accident would not make any impact when time for the title defense come up.
Go Spang! Get the win for Sweden!
