Featherweight challenger Hatsu Hioki will face off against Ricardo Lamas at UFC on FX 4 on June 22. UFC President Dana White first broke the news to FOXSports.
The bout was announced shortly before news broke that Erik Koch would likely face UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo. White stated that they had approached Hioki about taking the championship bout but it appears Hioki stuck to his post-UFC 144 comments about needing more time.
White had this to say about Hioki and Lamas:
“Many pegged Hioki as the next possible challenger for Jose Aldo’s title, but he wants one more test before going for the belt. In his way is Lamas, who has proven to be a tough competitor for anyone to deal with, especially since moving down to featherweight and finishing both opponents at 145 pounds. Both guys have verbally agreed to the match.”
UFC on FX 4 takes place on June 22 in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The bout will be headlined by a lightweight tilt between Clay Guida and Gray Maynard.
