Only two fighters were issued medical suspensions related to last weekend’s UFC on Fuel TV 2: Gustafsson vs. Silva fight card.
Paulo Thiago and Alessio Sakara were each handed 28-day suspensions by the Swedish MMA Federation for being the only competitors to suffer knockout losses at the event. MMAJunkie first reported the news.
Thiago was finished for the first time in his career by debuting welterweight Siyar Bahadurzada. The UFC newcomer floored the hard-nosed Brazilian just forty-two seconds into their fight with a hammering counter right hand, earning himself the Knockout of the Night bonus – something Thiago himself has received in the past.
Sakara took home his suspension courtesy fellow hard-hitter Brian Stann. Stann got himself back in the win column with a quick dismantling of the former Italian boxer, dropping Sakara with a knee and finishing him with two hard lefts thrown from guard. The two middleweights did battle in the co-main event of the evening.
Staged at the Ericsson Globe Arena in Stockholm, UFC on Fuel TV 2 was the promotion’s first event held in Sweden. In the main event, Sweden’s own Alexander Gustafsson increased his profile by thoroughly dominating Thiago Silva over three rounds for a unanimous decision.
