Nick Diaz Removed From DREAM 5 Title Fight, May Fight Noons On CBS In July
Nick Diaz has been removed by EliteXC from his scheduled bout against Hayato “Mach†Sakurai at DREAM 5 due to “contractual obligations” according to GracieFighter.com.
Diaz was to fight Sakurai for the promotion’s welterweight title at the event, which takes place on July 21st in Osaka, Japan.
“I was happy to be fighting Sakurai and hoping to get back there to Japan where they have you fight in a ring and there seems to be more respect for the art of MMA. I hope they will still have me back soon to fight him (Sakurai) for the belt,” Diaz told GracieFighter.com.
According to MMAJunkie.com, EliteXC officials want Diaz to fight on July 26th on it’s second “Saturday Night Fights” card on CBS and are considering hosting the event in Diaz’s hometown of Stockton, California.
He is expected to rematch KJ Noons for the EliteXC lightweight title in the main event bout.
In the co-main event EliteXC middleweight champion Robbie Lawler will take on Scott Smite in a rematch for the title. Jake Shields, Antonio Silva, Shayna Baszler, and Wilson Reis are also expected to fight at the event.

My buddy bought an XC dvd recently that showed Charles Crazy Horse Bennet beat Noons….what happened to Crazyhorse. That guy was one of the most entertaining people I’ve ever seen. Its a good thing that athletic commisions dont test for Glue Sniffing, but seriously…why hasnt this guy been on XC or WEC?
Gary Shaw was a longtime boxing promoter if that tells you anything… he is all about theatrics when it comes to hyping fights. he was completely behind the incident where Nick and Nate entered the ring after Noons’s fight…
I hope diaz kicks the crap out Noons.
Noons will pick apart Diaz once more standing up.
Nick looks so slow in comparison and i dont see anything changing for the rematch.
If Diaz managed to take down Noons i dont think he could keep him down and they would be back on their feet and advantage to Noons again.
