An exciting welterweight matchup is expected to take place at UFC on FX 3, with Erick Silva set to take on Charlie Brenneman at the event. Although not officially announced, the matchup has been verbally agreed to by both fighters. UFC on FX 3 takes place on June 8th at a yet-to-be announced city and venue, which will be determined by Harley Davidson’s Hometown Throwdown.
The matchup was first announced by Brazil’s SporTV.
Silva (13-2-1NC) returns to the Octagon after a controversial decision in his most recent fight at UFC 142 in January. The Brazilian returned to fight for the UFC in Brazil for the second consecutive time, with seemingly the same amount of success. He knocked out fellow Brazilian Carlo Prater within 30 seconds, but referee Mario Yamasaki disqualified Silva due to illegal punches to the back of Prater’s head. Silva attempted to have the decision overturned, but the UFC confirmed that the loss will remain on Silva’s record. This will be Silva’s first ever fight outside of his home country of Brazil.
He will take on Brenneman (15-3), who returned to the win column after defeating Daniel Roberts at UFC on FX 1 in January by decision. This followed Brenneman’s loss to Anthony Johnson in October, in which Brenneman struggled with the oversized welterweight, losing via head kick. “The Spaniard” owns a 4-2 record in the UFC, which includes his upset win over Rick Story in front of his hometown crowd of Pittsburgh at UFC on Versus 4 in June 2011.
UFC on FX 3 will feature the rematch between Ian McCall and Demetrious Johnson in the first round of the UFC flyweight tournament. The matchup will be the main event on the card. The event will take place on June 8th at a soon to be named city and venue.
