Melvin Guillard will look to end his two-fight losing skid as he will match up with Fabricio Camoes at UFC 148 in July. The two most recently fought at the same event, UFC on FX 1, with Guillard fighting in the main event, while Camoes found himself on the preliminary card. UFC 148 takes place on July 7th from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
Guillard (29-10-2) lost to Jim Miller in that main event at UFC on FX 1 in January, his second consecutive loss by first round submission. He also lost to Joe Lauzon at UFC 136 in October by submission in just 47 seconds. Prior to those two losses, Guillard had won five fights in a row and was in prime contention for a shot at the lightweight title. Five of Guillard’s last six fights have ended in the first round. Unfortunately for Guillard, that includes his two most recent fights which are both losses. Of Guillard’s six losses in the UFC, all have come by submission. He will return to Las Vegas with some optimism, though, having won his last five fights that have taken place in Sin City.
He will meet Camoes (14-6-1) who won his fight at UFC on FX 1 against Tommy Hayden. This was a great welcome back for Camoes, who was making his return to the UFC after a loss and a draw in his first two-fight stint. The Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt then won two consecutive fights in Tachi Palace Fights against two former UFC lightweights in Steve Lopez and Efrain Escudero to earn a spot in the UFC once again.
UFC 148 takes place on July 7th at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The event will be headlined by a bantamweight championship bout between Dominick Cruz and Urijah Faber, along with a middleweight matchup between Rich Franklin and Cung Le. Also taking place at the event will be another middleweight matchup between Michael Bisping and Tim Boetsch.
