UFC heavyweight number one contender Alistair Overeem was sentenced today on the charges that he shoved a woman in the face at a night club. Overeem received a less severe punishment of 50 hours of community service and required anger management counseling.
Overeem was also issued a suspended 90-day jail sentence for the act. As long as Overeem stays out of trouble between now and his September 26 court date, the sentence will be dismissed.
The UFC 146 main event fighter waived his right to a trial by jury in the matter, and was not present in court due to the UFC 146 press conference.
Overeem’s charges stemmed from a January 2 night club incident, where he shoved a woman in the face who approached him. Overeem’s management tells ESPN that the former Strikeforce champion will have a security detail with him when he goes out.
Overeem will face UFC champion Junior Dos Santos for the heavyweight title at UFC 146.
