Fabio Maldonado vs. Igor Pokrajac on for UFC on FUEL TV 3

Fabio MaldonadoWhat was originally scheduled to be a rematch between rivals Brandon Vera and Thiago Silva has become a battle of replacements between Fabio Maldonado and Igor Pokrajac.

Vera was forced out of his scheduled UFC on FUEL TV 3 fight with Silva due to injury, with Pokrajac stepping up to compete in his stead. Then Antonio Rogerio Nogueira got injured and pulled out of his UFC on FUEL TV 2 main event fight against Alexander Gustafsson and Silva got the call to bump up his schedule and take on the rising Swede. Maldonado signed on as his replacement, and here we are today.

33-year-old Cro Cop protege Igor Pokrajac (24-8) is riding a two-fight winning streak since dropping a decision to Stephan Bonnar back in 2010, having finished both Todd Brown and Krzysztof Soszynski. 3-3 in the UFC, The Duke will be looking to keep his momentum alive against Maldonado.

Seasoned Brazilian competitor Fabio Maldonado (18-4) will have his eye on rebounding from the unanimous decision to defeat he suffered against Kyle Kingsbury at the TUF 13 Finale last June when he takes on Pokrajac. The hard-hitting 31-year-old is 1-1 in the UFC, with a TKO win over James McSweeney in his UFC debut to balance the loss against Kingsbury.

UFC on FUEL TV 3 is slated to take place on May 15 from the Patriot Center in Fairfax, Virginia.
