Vera-Andy, O’Brien-Velasquez, Johnson-Burns Added To UFC Fight Night 14
UFC Fight Night 14, a rapidly-planned UFC event that will air on Spike TV on July 19th opposite of Affliction’s “Banned” pay-per-view event, has quickly taken shape over the last 24-hours. In addition to Dana White’s official confirmation of Anderson Silva’s light heavyweight debut against James Irvin in the headline bout as well as a main card bout between Frank Edgar and Hermes Franca, three additional bouts have been revealed for the UFC Fight Night 14 fight card.
MMAJunkie.com is reporting that Brandon Vera will make his light heavyweight debut against IFL veteran Reese Andy and that heavyweight Jake O’Brien has re-signed with the UFC to take on heavyweight up-and-comer Cain Velasquez. Also, MMAMania.com is reporting that knockout-artist Anthony Johnson will fight submission-specialist Kevin Burns.

look what happens when i dont come on this site for a day, silva fighting at 205 WOW big news, irvin has got a good chance to test silva’s jaw and i for one cant wait, hope this gets shown in the uk im willing to pay the £15 to see it!
good to see jake back couldn’t understand why he got dropted 11-1 is a good record! dont no much about that reese andy but i think vera will be to much for most people at 205, ide love to see the two new 205 guys go at it vera and anderson,

just had a look at the other two fights franka v edgar and johnson v burns, this is a class card johnson looked good in his last fight hope he can continue and not become another alexander! also good to see franka back im not a big fan of edgar even tho i no he has skill, hope hermes lands one of those flying knees on him haha GREAT CARD!!
I’m excited to see Franca come back and Edgar has been growing on me more and more. It’s another fight where I don’t want either to lose…..but I hope to see blood. Having Vera and Silva come through on short notice like this is a gift to the UFC and the fans. Vera most likely wanted back in the cage immediately since his loss to Werdum. My concern with the UFC is the depleting HW division. With Vera losing his two last fights and Affliction obviously having the upperhand in the world of HWs, it makes me wonder if the UFC is putting the expansion of the HW division on the back burner. All the while the UFC is adding Anderson Silva and Brandon Vera to the LHW division to add even more depth. I can think of 8 guys I’d love to see Vera fight off the bat. I’d watch Silva destroy anyone…it’s a pleasure to watch. In any case, Affliction may have the slow paced HWs locked up but that’s it. The UFC definitely needs to do something about their HW division to make it a hair more interesting for me.
You guys said it. The Franca/Edgar fight and Johnson/burns fight are gonna be awesome. I’d watch this over the affliction card even if Silva and Vera weren’t on it. I Think Anthony Johnson might just be the next big thing. That kid is an animal. I hope Edgar can take out franca. It be nice to see him bounce back from the Maynard loss.

KOuch the ufc heavyweight divison sucks ass but i would rather see i good 205 fight then a good heavyweight fight, and the ufc has the best 205 divison in the world along with the 155,170 and maybe the 185 so we cant moan to much haha
Since they are making a spectacle by moving Silva up to another weight class, the should have gone all the way and had him fight Brandon Vera. Vera would move down, and Silva would move up, so they’d meet at 205.
Funny, this is reminiscent of Wanderlei vs Henderson in Pride. Funny how Dana said that was the biggest f-up in Pride’s history, and now he is risking the same thing with Anderson. Notice I said it is a reminiscent, not identical situation (since the favorite is the smaller guy). If Anderson wins, he proves nothing, by beating a good but not great Lt Heavy. If he loses, he will NOT be considered the pound for pound best fighter, and his championship status would be tarnished, if only slightly, because a loss is a loss.
i hope he does get beat shake things up abit, but i cant see it, i also want fitch an forrest to win but i dought that an all haha im just an underdog man.

i dont see silva destroying irvin from what i remember irvin is a big guy at 205. i dont see silva getting the clinch as easy as hes done in the past, i think we could be in for an upset, if james lets those hands go without fearing whats guna happen if he misses i could see a KO, i dont think we’ve ever seen anderson’s jaw tested so will be intresting to see, plus silva’s got everything to lose in this match i mean i dont think people see irvin as the top p4p in the world so what will happen if he beats silva??? that p4p thing will make alot of people sound silly!!

I cant believe people think Silva will bulldoze Irvin i actually could see Irvin who is big for 205 knocking out Silva i really do think this is a real dangerous fight for Silva !
I would have thought Houston Glasshinaxender would have been an ideal 1st fight not the dangerous Irvin.
While this card isn’t near the calibur that Affliction’s card is… I will still DVR it and watch it commercial free. I’d much rather see Fedor fight live against what I think is his toughest opponent yet, than Silva who’ve i expect to win easily.

I’m not a big Anderson silva fan but to say Houston Alexander should be his first fight is an insult to the great fighters that Anderson has walked through.
He does have punching power, Irvin did beat BO CANTRELL twice lol, lost to Stephen Bonnar and Thiago Silva ….. he lost to lodune sincaid in WEC ……

This is a solid card. I am glad to see Vera back and moving down to where he belongs. The Axe murderer would have been a stronger fight of course but there is always a PPV. Irvin is a nice first test for the Spyder.
I personally can’t wait for Affliction Banned! But I will have this on the smaller TV too!

The card isn’t that stacked, but the headliner is pretty good though. VERY VERY intersting….Can’t what to see how The Spider does at this new weight against such a dangerous opponent!
aflc. card is full of fighters the ufc doesn’t want or let go!(for a good reason) exsept one! and people want to see that more than best p4p move up in weight to prove he is the best p4p? WEIRD!

Dietrich you said it right there bro… Vera is going to be absolutely AWESOME at 205. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him take the belt (no matter WHO has it) in a few months should he do well. Vera has serious power and is an all around good fighter. Vera vs Anderson Silva would be awesome for a chance to fight for the belt one day.
