An intriguing bantamweight match up has been added to the impending UFC on Fox 3 fight card, with Nick Denis and Johnny Bedford now slated to do battle at the event that takes place May 5th at the IZOD Center in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
Defeated by eventual season winner John Dodson in the semi-finals of the fourteenth season of The Ultimate Fighter, “Brutal” Bedford (18-9) rebounded to make his UFC debut a successful one by taking out fellow TUF 14 alum Louis Gaudinot via third round TKO at The Ultimate Fighter 14 Finale. The 29-year-old Ohioan was scheduled to make his second Octagon appearance at UFC on Fox 2 this past January opposite the experienced Eddie Wineland, having stepped up for a flyweight-bound Demetrious Johnson, but saw that fight cancelled when Wineland got injured and replacement opponent Mitch Gagnon experienced visa issues.
Canadian master of biochemistry Nick Denis (11-2) also debuted in the Octagon recently, acquitting himself very well en route to a first round knockout over Joseph Sandoval at UFC on FX: Guillard vs. Miller that he earned with a volley of mean, standing elbows. The victory netted “The Ninja of Love” a “Knockout of the Night” bonus as well as the attention of the MMA world. In another similarity he shares with Bedford, the win over Sandoval put the 28-year-old Denis on a two-fight winning streak.
UFC on Fox 3: Miller vs. Diaz takes place on May 5th at the IZOD Center in East Rutherford, New Jersey and will feature a main event between top lightweight contenders Jim Miller and Nate Diaz. Other matchups include a welterweight battle between Johny Hendricks and Josh Koscheck, along with Alan Belcher taking on Rousimar Palhares in a middleweight matchup.
