I hate living in North Carolina! If anyone ever wonders what NC is all about its Duke/UNC/NCSU…That’s it! All the Time.Slack jawed rednecks drawing a line in the sand based solely on who throws a ball down a hoop the most. I couldn’t get to Vegas this summer this was going to be a distant second and now I get screwed on it too. If you have the means move to Vegas because waiting for a fight to come to your town will just break your heart…..AND I am sick too…

  • Curtis says:

    D,
I am from NC originally and I feel your pain. I was planning on going for sure! Especially when it was Randleman and Monson.

Good thing is that they are going to reschedule. Bad thing is that it will be in basketball season… I hope Duke isn’t playing that night… Wow, I guess you are right.

  • Dietrich says:

    Curtis
Thanks for the words.I doubt this card happens. They expected to make UFC gate on their first event the same night as a free UFC.Are they crazy? They must have been out of their minds. Weak ticket sales occur because of one thing ****ty fights. Bustamante and Haynes was a tune up for Bustamante. Monson and Randleman was interesting. The deciding factor for me was 9 fights at $25 ticket. They should have capped the tickets at $50 and it would have been a sell out. It was bad management and they deserve to go under.

  • KOuch says:

    Dietrich,

I live in San Bruno where the San Francisco airport really is. I only wish we had NCAA teams like you have right before your eyes. Tyler Hansborough is the f-n man!!!! The history of NCAA basketball at UNC is a great thing.

Back to MMA. Your second post says it all. You not only hit the nail right on the head, you kicked Gary Shaw in the balls throughout the process. (don’t ask) Monson was pulled from the fight anyway wasn’t he? Other promotions are going to struggle against the UFC for a long time. Look at the IFL and the **** slap the UFC just delivered to Affliction. Get well soon….cold or flu?

  • Kris Karkoski says:

Personally I don’t understand the ticket pricing of these mid-level promotions. Small, regional promotions do well with lower priced tickets and the UFC can justify the high prices but a promotion like this shouldn’t have tickets higher that $40. I know they need to pay their fighters but if I had a choice between filling an arena and making a fraction less money I’d do it in a heartbeat.

It helps a promotion for a fanbase who will continue to come again and again in the future if you have a good product.

I’m hoping once I move to NC in two years I can become affiliated with a promotion in some capacity.

  • Kris Karkoski says:

KOuch – Monson withdrew from his Adrenaline MMA bout but was still to fight in this one. Randleman pulled out and was replaced by Rodriguez. I think a combination of poor ticket sales, little local interest, and Monson being questionable caused them to push it back to the fall but if it ever materializes again will be interesting.

  • KOuch says:

    Kris,

Thanks. I think Monson beats Randleman.(eventually) Ticket prices at smaller events near me are usually $50 and sell out no problem. One of my friends who is a fighter got a cut from his ticket sales in his first fight. Not exactly sure how it worked but it was very nice for him to get the extra money. I think you should try out for the Apprentice and just take over Donald’s duties with Affliction. I’d surely have 100% more faith in your decisions than I would his.

  • Kris Karkoski says:

Haha thanks. Hopefully MMA will be pretty big down there eventually. Planning on going to Raleigh-area so there should be a lot of shows and gyms there.

  • KOuch says:

    Kris,

MMA is going to be big every where soon enough. Seriously though, try out for The Apprentice. It will help the public get to know you and even if you don’t win, it’s great promotion. Should you succeed through the art of reality TV (The Apprentice) I will let one of your future fighters kick the **** out of me. Not sure why….seriously…do it…try out!

  • JAI says:

I wasn’t really that much interested in this event anyway. I’d like to see Monson fight (hadn’t seen him fight in a while). I thought the proposed match up between he and Randleman would have been quite intriging, but other that that, this event didn’t interest me that much.

  • Curtis says:

One major problem with this is that NC MMA currently doesn’t have a governing body. They are unsure about the rules they want to employ as well. The governing body in Va is currently trying to reach out and become the governing body there but it hasn’t been worked out yet.

    KOuch,
It is great to have such a college basketball presence. I could be the biggest Duke fan alive, my dad and many of my friends are huge Carolina fans, my aunt has a masters from Wake, and one of my best friends went to State. It makes for a great season! Plus in this area I don’t need to get the Directv season pass to see Duke play, they are always on, and by the way… Your boy Frank Gore killed me in my fantasy league last year!

  • Dietrich says:

    KOuch,
Hansborough is a great player…its not about players its what wevee done to a couple of games..Its not the same game it used to be and that is one of my problems with it. The other is it is just so over exposed you just don’t know .We had a press conference because one time a player referenced playing on a time to being slavery. So he had to apologize to the world. The MMA equivalent would be BJ GSP and Matt Hughes living 10 miles apart getting 5 minutes of newstime a night. Having 1 page of news in the paper a day. Having everyone argue about who is better all day everyday all year long, people investigating everything so they might have the extra bit of news. All of which boils down to about 2 fights a year that they split.

  • Curtis says:

I can see that too, but it is the way we are raised in that area. In kindergarten we did dribbling drills not play tag. You could count on twice a year in school growing up for a Duke Carolina day, where you would wear whatever gear you had to support your fav.

Many that aren’t from there and haven’t lived it, hate it or don’t understand it.

I have lived in Pensacola Fl, Jacksonville Fl, San Diego Ca, Chicago, and Norfolk Va, and no one has ever cared as much as in NC, many honestly could have cared less.

A rivalry of this nature would be great for MMA.

  • Dietrich says:

    PS
Its a cold like allergy. I volunteered to help someone with HVAC. It got my eyes throat sinus ears. It took about 4 days to find any drugs that would work at all. still coughing like crazy and hearing about 50%. The fight just pushed me over the edge. FYI Basketball tickets for UNC are cheaper in NOvember and December and as a 30 plus year observer I can tell you that this would be one of those year to see UNC play.

  • Curtis says:

The best time to get tickets is over Christmas break for students. Tickets at Cameron are insanely expensive but then you can get a steal on some student section seats with the crazies.

UNC is going to be tough this year, especially since they got all three Green, Lawson, and Ellington are returning, but then again they were supposed to win it last year too…….

but don’t count my devils out yet! They are going to be good this year too.

  • KOuch says:

    Dietrich,

I want to stay on MMA but Frank Gore and the 49ers hurt my feelings. Along with the Giants, Sharks and Warriors. Brandon Wright will be very good for the Warriors though. You do remember him right? You may get NCAA jammed down your throat but it’s better than Stanford and the 7′ tall Lopez twins.(GARBAGE)

It would be a cool day on Earth to have NCAA MMA.

  • Dietrich says:

KOuch…You should go into medicine that Stanford remark was better than the report I have had to deal with the last few days!Take care my friend
    Dietrich

  • Dannyboy says:

Dietrich I’m in Winston-Salem my self and totally feel your pain bro. My wife and I went to the event in Winston a few weeks ago and had a really good time. Was nice seeing mixed drinks served right in the coliseum. Bought tix to GoW cause of a flyer I got outside the event….now pooh.

  • Dietrich says:

    Dannyboy,
I almost went to Winston Salem. This one out because it had a card. What gets me is we have all these up and coming promotions that are trying in Raleigh/NC and then they don’t follow up. If you have an event how hard is it to post your results on your website. A website that you advertised for the show. Don’t they realize they are creating brands. Nobody seems to care. There is a couple of thing on the horizon but I almost feel like saving cash for the eventual move to Vegas.

  • Dietrich says:

Everyone click on the Godz banner once a day so our hosts get paid….

  • Jason Nicholson says:

Nc does have a govern body, and the rules are set in place. I have fought several times in NC already and I was going to fight on the Godz card. There was more fights on the card they just didnt have them on the website. The real reason for not haveing the show is because of the bigger name fighters didnt turn there medicals in on time. I have friends with the Boxing Authority and they forwarded me this information. The bad thing is that the promotion didnt tell the fighters until today, we had to find out from other sources.

  • Curtis says:

    Jason,
I stand corrected. Do you have any contact information for the governing body of NC? My sources from inside the governing body of Va would love to get in touch with them I am sure.

I am sorry that the fight didn’t happen for you Jason. If you have additional information or anything that you would like to share about the fight we can set up an interview for MMAFrenzy. Interested?

  • Dietrich says:

    Thanks for the info Jason.

  • Jason says:

    Curtis,

I would definatlty due that interview. The whole thing makes me made with that promotion because no one takes NC fighters
serious. I busted my butt to get ready for this show and now I can’t fight. I manage myself because every manager I have talked to just wants to know what camp u r from. So if u know of any good managers let me know.

  • Curtis says:

    Jason,
Shoot me an email at curtis_clontz@yahoo.com and we will work out the details.
