Video: Georges St-Pierre Reacts to Carlos Condit vs. Nick Diaz at UFC 143

UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre was cageside at last Saturday’s UFC 143 event, where Carlos Condit spoiled St-Pierre’s hopes of fighting Nick Diaz with a close decision win to claim the interim welterweight title along with a shot at St-Pierre later this year.

I love how gsp and liddell are sitting next to each other and talking about the fight. two legends of the sport in the end are just two spectaters just like us gotta love it.

  • bb says:

agreed.. and both pointing out how close it was and how either round could have gone either way.. many Diaz supporters say Liddell and others thought he was robbed, but clearly it was close and in my opinion scored correctly, although I would have had it 48-47..

    • learntoread says:

Liddell definitely stated after the fight he thought the decision should have gone Diaz’s way, I didn’t read anywhere him stating he thought Nick “was robbed”. Not sure where you’re getting that from.

Twitter also blew up with a lot of fighters tweeting that Diaz won..its not just three guys who post at the frenzy..once again rds 1,2 & 5 cleary Diaz..3 & 4 could have gone either way..good for Carlos tho he had a game plan that he thought would appeal to the judges and it did

    • Mikemac says:

      @dan
I agree with you the first 2 were close with Diaz probably (not clearly) winning, but 3 and 4 were condits. it would be hard to say objectively that Diaz won those rounds. If you feel diaz ‘clearly won’ 1, 2 and 5 then its fair to say condit clearly won 3 and 4. And I like both fighters so no Diaz hate here.

  • Dan82523 says:

The dissapointing thing is I see GSP grounding Condit for yet another pretty easy lop sided decision win..I would have gave Diaz more of a chance to pull a Sub or some sort of late finish

    • learntoread says:

Yeah, I don’t see GSP vs. Condit being any more exciting/competitive than any of Georges last 4 outings. Especially with “the new Condit” entering the octagon.

      • Andrew Poole says:

I guess by “the new Condit” you mean one that sticks exactly to a well thought game plan. He maintained a calm disposition and kept his head, while sticking to a game plan. This just shows that he is a mature fighter for his age and is mentally ready to fight for the title.

      • learntoread says:

No, I mean “the new Condit” attempting to out-point the WW out-point-you King…just not gonna happen from his back each round.

  • gome562 says:

IMO it was not unanimous decision, but it should have been a split decision. I guess that is what happns when you leave it up to the judges.

  • Devin says:

Damn gsp wanted diaz so bad. Be careful what you wish for though! Very excited to see what Condit can do, now that he has shown not only the ability to finish, but the ability to fight a smart gmame plan.

One other interesting this is that Greg Jackson trains both these dudes! I assume he’ll be in condit’s corner (I guess?) , since condit lives there and uses Jackson’s as his main gym, but It’s still a pretty interesting subplot.

I think we sometimes forget that its based on one round at a time and not the whole fight. Go back and watch the fight one round at a time with no sound, take a 2 min break between each round and pick a winner of that round. I was going for Diaz but Condit clearly won, octagon control means nothing when your opponent was letting you have it. As for the Condit-GSP fight, just look at Condit’s fight with Rory McDonald, who I see as a mini GSP (by mini, I mean that he belongs at LW), he was getting owned by Rory and Rory’s inexperience gave Condit a moment to get up where he capitalized for the KO. GSP will not make that same mistake and its gonna be a long night for Carlos.

    • mikewh says:

Mini GSP? i don’t follow your logic, Rory is taller, has a bigger reach and is only 22…i expect he will fight for the WW belt one day not too soon from now. His frame is too big for LW now…he would give GSP all he could handle, would a LW fighter be able to toss Diaz around like a rag doll, and his only loss at WW is to Condit.

  • Bigguy says:

Jackson won’t train either man for their fight so it will be interesting to see their game plans since the master of gameplans isn’t giving them help… I can see Condits game plan being similar to the Diaz fight, hacking at GSP legs hoping to slow down the pace and slowing his take downs!

  • MIKE B. says:

Theres a lot more coaches than just Jackson. Winkeljohn is a great coach, and GSP has his guys. probly be better without Jackson. Once GSP takes Condit down, Condit will do nothing. Diaz would have a chance.

  • EATtoWIN-FightTOlose says:

I saw the fight late and heard everyone crying OUTRAGE !! But when I watched it – Im thinking… Doesnt Nick Diaz have a corner – Dont they know to tell him hey finish this fight by taking down and submit this prick. IDK – he was supposed to be so good on the ground but only took his back the 5th round. I call Diaz on his BULLSH*T !! next time – have a real game plan.

  • EATtoWIN-FightTOlose says:

Nick Diaz is a one -dimensional (inboxer) fighter. Does only close range boxing instead of outboxing and countering which take truly skill to do.When i heard about nick diaz wanting to do a professional boxing match ….I can only think – he would be knocked out. Taking so many hits to the face.

  • Mike says:

Anyone else notice A-Rod (Alex Rodriguez) was sitting behind GSP a few seats away from Chuck? Or only a Yankee fan like myself notices that? BTW I had Diaz 1,2, and 5.

  • Mike says:

Also Rogan said sitting cageside he had Carlos as the winner but when he watched again at home he scored the fight for Diaz, FYI
