Carlos Condit Reportedly Agrees to Rematch with Nick Diaz
UFC interim welterweight champion Carlos Condit has reportedly agreed to a rematch with Nick Diaz following their close fight Saturday night. While it was initially believed that Condit would wait for UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre to get healthy, it appears that he will now rematch the recently “retired” Diaz.
Rumors about the fight spread earlier this evening with UFC President Dana White later confirming via twitter.
Diaz and Condit battled in an extremely close fight that split the MMA community when it came to who won the fight. While this is not too uncommon in a judgement based sport, this fight stood out since those that agreed on who won seem to give each fighter different rounds.
When the bout is signed it will end the brief retirement of Nick Diaz after he expressed his anger about the decision following Saturday’s fight. The fight would also give Diaz a second shot at fighting champion Georges St-Pierre when he comes back from knee surgery.
No timetable was given on when the fight would occur, though it could likely happen during the summer and could possibly headline a traditional Independence Day weekend card.

Like Condit really had a choice in the matter..the way that went down Sat night this was inevitable
Regardless of the rematch condit was the champ on UFC143 and nothing can change it for that night.
Any way Dana can get Diaz vs. GSP he’ll do it. Rematch to a boring fight be damned.
ok dude, if it werent for Dana there would be no fight at all.! That fight wasnt boring either, Condit clearly scored more kicks, not just to the leg, to the face and Condits double leg face kick was the ****. Aldo should be added to that card since hes in brazil already. make it interesting. A non- title fight with a really good fighter from pride or cerrone, pettis 155er haha give sonnen to aldo and let aldo break his leg at 145……..GO DANA YOUR THE MAN, THANKS FOR BRINGING US THE FIGHTS THAT MAKE LIFE NOT SO BORING, THANKS FOR THIS SITE TOO!!
Well Condit could always do like Edgar and win the rematch in dominating fashion… That being said I’d like to see what Condit’s game is and if Diaz can figure something him out….
This is pretty dumb. Dana is rewarding Diaz’s horrible post fight behavior. But i guess theirs time to fill before Georges gets better. I bet out there, jimmy hendrex is pretty butthurt hes not fighting Condit.
Jimmy Hendrix has been dead for close to forty years. Johny Hendricks still has a fight or two before he’s a title contender.
hey hey hey….. the voodoo child wants his title shot!
He should have thought about the consequences of his actions then.
LOL…
Actually bsbiz, it’s been more than 40 years…jimi died in late 1970.
he isnt rewarding anybodys behavior he is just giving everybody what they want whether u think condit or diaz won it was super close but nobody really won difinitively
I’m not going to pay to watch Condit hit and run away for another 25 minutes. I wonder if Carlos Condit is going to call this rematch the “dog fight” # 2? LoL! What a joke! It’s going to be another “dog race” because the Natural Born runner is going to run away again, like a female dog.
So you’re saying that you would let Diaz pin you against the cage and just trade with him and not escape to the middle of the octagon?
Hmm, well then there’s probably a reason why you don’t fight, and instead criticize others anonymouly.
Keep up the good work!
I recall Anderson Silva being threatened by Dana White to end his career if he ever ran away again in a fight. Condit does it and somehow the same fans think it was “strategic?” Condit’s a punk.
I think this is bs but you cannot withhold credit and props from condit for accepting this, as he def did not have too.
But it makes no difference as everyone will complain again on here after condit wins. I hope he kos him this time and we can put this to rest for good.
Make Nick eat his words. Kick him out of the UFC. He said it himself, “I’m retired.” Nick you got your face kicked in methodically as evidenced by your face after the fight. Condit’s face looked like you may have slapped him one or twice. GSP will whoop your behind Nick Diaz. You know what’s even funnier Nick was watching Diego Sanchez whoop your butt after all your sh@! talking! The UFC don’t need you, cry baby!
i guess thats y condit got a much larger suspension for the cut on his face(either way stop talking about how the persons face l;ooks after the fight)
I do have give Condit MAD props for accepting this… He coulda told Dana F off and waited for George but he is a fighter for sure
Hopefully this will get signed asap & not turn into an MMA “tease”.
Agreed though, props to Condit if this actually does materialize.
It’s the right thing to do under the circumstances.
“It’s the right thing to do under the circumstances.”…From your POV maybe.
I think that really depends on an individuals point of view of the fight. It’s my opinion Condit clearly won the fight and should be either a)waiting for GSP, or b)fighting a new challenger. I think this is not the right thing to do, I would rather see the Ellenberger/Sanchez winner get the next shot than see Diaz get it. I don’t think Diaz dropped any because of this, but he should still have to beat a top ranked guy before getting another shot.
Well Newfie, I would put the “individual point of view” of the following fighters (as well as Joe Rogans, plus numerous others) ahead of yours on this particular topic any day:
@mattlindland
Great fight Diaz 1,2,5 Condit 3,4
@mark_munoz
Gr8 fight! Think Diaz 4 rounds to 1. We’ll see!
@TheCodyMcKenzie
Wow really goes to show you how bad these judges suck Carlos ran the entire time
@patmiletich
That decision was an absolute joke. At best, Condit won 2 rounds.
@Jens_Pulver
Diaz wins via ring generalship, one moving forward, one moving
backward. Ala delahoya vs Trinidad in my opinion
@CungLe185
I meant Diaz rounds 1,2 & 5 and Condit 3 & 4
@EllenbergerMMA
You got to be kidding me…
@TimKennedyMMA
I HATE judges! @ufc
@MaguireTheOne
Well I don’t know what to say about that decision but I thought Diaz done enough to win it!
@thugjitsumaster
I scored it for Diaz 1,2,&5 (48-47)
@mexicutioner760
I had it even through 4 and Diaz stepped up to take the 5th.
@CesarGracieBJJ
Chuck Liddell and Anderson Silva sitting ringside had Diaz winning. Champions know really who won.
@danhendo
Wow, I would not want to judge that one. I had it even after 4. And diaz in the 5th.
well who else can condit fight while waiting for gsp?definately not koschek after that poor performance.maybe hendricks or winner of sanchez ellenberger if they put on a good performance.that being said i am happy to pay for this rematch and see if diaz can come up with a gameplan to catch condits elusiveness.i dont agree with nicks attitude after the fight but as an mma fan i think we would be losing a great asset to this sport if he retired.some of the best fighters have learnt from their losses and gone on to be champions.looking forward to the rematch.
Interestingly enough, Joe Rogan has altered his thoughts on the outcome of the fight after watching it a 2nd time at home. Giving Diaz rounds 1,2,5:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gkgFrgl3uHs
Let me ask this question, and Learntoread, this isn’t directed to you at all, its just a general question…
When it comes to Joe Rogan, if he says something against a fighter that people are a fan of, then he’s idiot and doesn’t know shiit… but if he says something then in favor of that fighter, in this case Diaz, THEN people want to listen to him. Why is that? Is the hypocricy that rampant?
And i dont mean that just on here, I see people saying that kinda stuff on twitter and even the youtube videos.
He either knows what he’s talking about, or he doesn’t. Its not just what’s convienent for you at that time. Like I dont agree with him saying that Diaz won. Doesn’t mean I think he’s an idiot though.
No, that’s the only thing people want to hear. Everything else is persecution.
Personally, I’ve never called Rogan “and idiot” or thought he “doesn’t know ****”.
I’ve generally always found his POV’s on MMA interesting (food for thought) and well thought out / articulated.
@learntoread – And who pays Joe Rogan? Zuffa does, and Zuffa REALLY wants GSP-Diaz, not GSP-Condit.
Great logic dbiz. lol
‘Cause Joe Rogan has always been one to say what authoritative figures tell him too (especially when he’s not on the job). lol
I’m willing to bet that any time Rogan is discussing MMA he is “on the clock.” Zuffa doesn’t seem to do off the clock for anyone associated with it.
Well, rather than being simply presumptuous about some Zuffa conspiracy of “persuading” Joe Rogan to openly lie about who he thought won the fight in order push a GSP-Diaz mission, you might want to recall that The Boss openly stated to the press that he thinks Condit won the fight.
@learn
Well thats why I was saying it wasnt directedtowards you. I know you haven’t, I just posted it there because it was a link to his opinion.
I know that if someone has a different opinion than someone else, then one or both parties attack the other’s credibility, and that’s just how it goes, but it comes off kind of juvenile when someone’s opinion changes depending on the statement.
I saw people calling him the worst commentator ever after this fight and his job has nothing to do with his opinion and everything he knows about MMA. Just thought it was worth a mention.
Wow Dana must have put a big carrot in front of condit to agree to this (or a gun to the head). Especially after all the interviews with condit, his manager, etc… Stating that they had no interest in a rematch since they all felt Carlos clearly won. It would be a long lay off if he waited and the only other guy who is a viable contender is ellenberger if he stops Diego. GSP Diaz might be a reality after all.
What a load….White even scored the fight a win for Condit. But now he was a re-match? Hey Dana quit with the ‘it’s what the fans want’. It’s what you want for strictly monitary reasons. I sure hope Condit takes you to the bank.
****in’ BULL****!!! Carlos Condit fought a smart fight and CLEARLY won.
I understand the marketability if Diaz/GSp, and even the marketing potential of his rematch, but I think.it is insane that it is happening. It was a unanimous decision!!! Agree or disagree with the decision, the fact is that it was not controversial for all 3 judges. Diaz has some loyal, passionate, and most importantly loud fans. I truly believe their complaining is the only reason this rematch is happening. This guy has been given a free pass so many times and it drives me crazy that someone is given special treatment at someone else’s expense just because he is polarizing and sells tickets.
Great. Another PPV I won’t watch because Dana keeps rewarding Diaz’s sh!t-awful behavior and attitude.
Maybe it’s time to start watching real sports.
Bottom line is GSP/Diaz will generate more $ than GSP/Condit. Besides, Condit will be able to pickup another lucrative payday during the rematch. As fans it is hard for us to look at this as what it is, it is a for profit business.
So Diaz coming out of retirement?
I don’t count a rage quit as an actual retirement.
Diaz won the first fight and he will also win the second fight.kick his ass again nick
Actually Diaz lost. That’s why he threw a tantrum.
So what happens if Diaz wins the reamtch? He gets a shot at GSP without Condit getting another chance at Diaz?
For me, it seems like the UFC was planning all along for GSP/Diaz and Condit was nothing more than a stepping stone for Diaz to walk over. Then Condit wins. But the fight was close enough for Dana to force a rematch so that they can get back to the original plan of GSP/Diaz.
It just seems so manufactured. The sense of authenticity in the UFC’s roadmap just seems to be completely missing.
Based on the judging criteria Diaz did win rds 1 2 & 5…doesnt it freak any of u the f**k out that all of the judges scored it wrong?..put your hatred aside
What judging criteria is that? Getting hit more? Ineffectively following an opponent with a superior game plan around that cage getting hit? Securing a single take down but getting out-struck 8-2 on the ground?
Which criteria did Diaz win that fight with?
not when he’s outstruck something like 161-110. Diaz would complain when he fought wrestlers saying that they only give points for taking guys down and how he thought it was BS, but now he wants to win a round based on him getting a takedown?
Then he said that if he’d known that he was behind he would have finished that armbar…..well….. isn’t that what you’re SUPPOSED to do? Finish the fight? If he thinks he could have finished it, and he didnt, then he needs to STFU and deal with the judges’ decision. Since when does a BJJ black belt NOT finish a submision? Gimme a break man.
i think Diaz is a great fighter, and tough SOB…i just wish he didn’t have this penchant for acting like a whiny little child everytime he opens his mouth…he’d be better off not saying anything, or saying what he has to say with a little tact or dignity…he might gain a little more respect…what bothers me more than the way he acts, is that normal people buy into this and actually enjoy it…which to me says a lot about those people as well…
diaz fans are such crybabies just like diaz
It will be interesting to see what gameplan the suddenly “elusive” Carlos Condit has for the rematch
Actually condit could’ve fought Hendricks or Ellenberger (if he beats Diego) all along like was stated from the get go. We always knew there’d be two fights before gsp, and diaz is so lucky condit manned up and gave him another.
Bsbiz leave it to you to be the community grammar inspector as truck. And kobe way to comment on someones face and then say to stop commenting on someones face.
Ufc knows they’re losing a big money draw in diaz if he can’t even beat top contender in condit, so they pathetically asked condit to accept the rematch (which he should never have to accept cuz if he did lose a close decision then he’s in the bad spot of going 1-1 against someone) and NOT getting the title fight.
Can I just be the first to finally say to all the complainers, let’s stop crying about condit beating.diaz in a close decision and give him props for being the first to stop diaz in 5 years in a brilliantly though out game plan. It’s not like he judged the fights, he just did his job to win. Go home and beat up your little sister if you still can’t get over it. And now condit is gonna break his face to make all of you shut up once and for all :)
^^post full of complaints ;)
^^full of **** :)
Wow way to be a champion complainer and post the ten people who went in diaz favor. Cody mckenzie? Joey beltran? Who cares! Lol. Not that I need to defend condit’s win, but I’ll just skip that part and say ok sure you are all right, diaz got robbed!! Haha sucks for him and you!! Condit is champ and diaz is a quitter lol!! So.will diaz unquit now? Lol. What are you girls gonna say when condit kos diaz this time and your boy is 0-2 against the natural born runner? Lol. And frantz lol at you correcting miss bsbiz
I’m not gonna sit here and comment any more about the fight specifically, but in general, it would be nice if the UFC or somebody, would present us with a “Primetime”-esque show dedicated to judges and refs. A score card doesn’t give any thought to reasoning or motive, nor do compustrike numbers.
How bout we watch a 4-5 fights, some with controversey, some not, and lets have judge commentary while the fights are going on. Have them stop and rewind certain parts and explain why or how something is or isn’t control or aggression. Lets have somebody actually break down the whole “aggression and octagon control” aspect of a fight, both physically, and verbally. Show us what trumps what in terms of a take down versus a few strikes.
Even better, let’s watch these “controversial” fights from canvas-level, without the benefits of commentary, Zuffa’s changing camera angles, and no replay period.
Judges can comment all they want, until people watch it from a single angle, without hearing comments, and without being able to slow down or go back, they won’t get it.
Judges don’t always have the best view of the action. A punch that one judges sees as a hard, clean hit can look like a miss to another. “Running” may look like a dodge and counter to one but not another. “Chasing stupidly” may look like aggression to one judge and not another.
Training won’t solve that, unless you mean training the armchair experts to understand that the judges don’t see what we see. But I’ve been tilting at that particular windmill for a couple years now, and Sancho Panza just rode his horse off a cliff in disgust.
I love it Jason but I don’t think it matters. Each judge uses his own method, and vantage point from where he is sitting. No monitors and no instants relays. Also there is the fact that judges have opinions of the fighters before they go in there, and just like a fan (even if only subconsciously), they tend to watch from that point of view, and may only see damage coming from that side (with the other fighters attacks potentially being less closely watched). In general its slightly like jury selection and how they really have to search for people without any semblance of a preconceived notion. I don’t think its malicious, and the great judges likely know how to overcome that, but I think It’s a reality that is hard to change.
I would like to know if the judges turn in their scores each round, or if not till the end, where they could potentially make different scores on previous rounds. Anybody?
They turn their scores in after each round.
My whole thought about this is that Carlos Condit is the one getting the short end of the stick.
UFC announcers & UFC (DAna & co) gave him the shaft. Not only did the announcers especially Rogan manipulate alot of the viewers by the way they tend to announce a fight according to who they like.
Also UFC is pretty much giving Diaz the merit to **** & moan whenever he likes as usual, and pretty much telling everyone that “YES WE WANT GSP vs DIAZ, BECAUSE WE WANT IT”.
Ive watched the fight and Condit didnt run, he dogged hits, would come back kick & punch and beat Diaz. Running is something down the likes of old boxer Terrible Terry Norris who would always do that once he won a round or two…
Consit 2,3,4
Diaz 1&5
“this fight stood out since those that agreed on who won seem to give each fighter different rounds”
People keep making the comment about different rounds being in each person’s favor, but at the end its still a resounding feeling that condit won more of the fight. so who cares!
There are tons of individuals who share a very different “resounding feeling” than yours Devin, in terms of who actually “won” the fight, guaranteed. Which is why people care.
Except none of them have ever gotten off their ass to see about becoming a judge, so no one WHO MATTERS thinks Diaz won the fight.
Well, with that logic, no one WHO MATTERS thought Rua won the title fight @ UFC 104. Cool, I get it.
@learntoread – Precisely what I argued at the time.
Lol yeah the 3 most importantly people think diaz did one thing the whole fight and it ultimately cost him. And I would say WAY more people agree with it. Only people you find online talking about anythin are complainers. Goes for movies, restaurants, anything complainers can complain about.
But it was close enough for everyone to shut the **** up and I really wish you girls would by now
And so, with that statement of authority, I do believe nothing else needs to be said on the issue.
I hope not. It’s been 5 days already. I could list 6 other close decisions off the top of my head, including one where lil diaz got robbed against maynard, and where Edgar got robbed back in the day against maynard, but how long do we really need to talk about it? Best thing to do is tip your cap and come back strong. Sure you can remember it and use than info for your own personal ranking and memory of the fighters, but its not somethin to complain and make excuses about endlessly. It’s not like anyone is trying to protect an undefeated record. Unfortunately some of the fans are coming off worse than even diaz.
The difference between this and the other close decisions you are referring too is two words: Title Fight.
Sure there have been TONS of close 3 round fights in the past, lots of controversy surrounding a few of them too. But the truth of the matter is, in 5 round title fights there is simply so MUCH MORE at stake (there are no more important matches within the UFC than title fights). Which is why there has been a precedence in signing immediate rematches after very close and controversial UD title fights.
Examples: Edgar/Penn, Machida/Rua, Couture/Rizzo, etc.
