Thiago Silva vs. Bradon Vera Rematch Booked for UFC on FX 3

Thiago Silva

A light heavyweight rematch between Thiago Silva and Brandon Vera has been booked for UFC on FX 3 on May 15 in Fairfax, Virginia, the UFC announced today.

Silva dominated Vera for a unanimous decision win at UFC 125 in January 2011, but Silva was stripped of his win and suspended for one year after submitting fake urine for his drug test.

Prior to the no contest, Silva (14-2) had lost two on his last three as he scored a win over Keith Jardine between losses to Lyoto Machida and Rashad Evans, while Vera (12-5) was initially cut, but returned with a win Eliot Marshall at UFC 137 in October to snap a two-fight losing streak.

The UFC on FX 3 fight card also includes middleweights Jason MacDonald vs. Tom Lawlor.

Looks like Vera is getting his wish, he’s been asking for another shot at Silva and now he has it. Even if silva does not need to submit pee from another species I don’t know that this fight will turn out much different than the last one. I really hope to NOT see the spanking though!

  • KEVSMITT says:

I think this fight will look similar to their first one, but I hope Beta can take Silva’s back st some point so that he can return the patty-cake and spanking routine that Silva dishes out last time.

Vera hasn’t looked like “the truth” in quite sometime. His last fight was a very close one against a guy who’s not even in the UFC anymore.

I agree KevSmitt. I think Thiago will use his grappling again which is vera’s weakness to win this fight. Silva will come in rusty and uncomfortable on his feet so i’m sure he’ll take the fight to the ground where he’s most comfortable. He’s also a lot stronger than vera.

Vera should come in the way he did against couture gunz blazing.

This is a good match. Vera gets a chance at some serious revenge for how Thiago slapped him and for how Thiago straight up cheated.

  • Bfree says:

So what bone is Thiago Silva going to break of Vera’s to make it four fights in a row that the Truth breaks a bone? Vera is garbage and you can argue pretty hard that he lost his last fight against Marshall. Hopefully both these guys are healthy and Thiago can quiet some of his critics down

  • Devin says:

Vera has always been a stud and breaks bones on his opponent himself. His last fight was close, but was against a very game and well rounded Elliott Marshall. Imo vera beat randy and got robbed. With that said Silva is a beast and easily a top 6 or 7 lhw. I think vera has a lot left to prove. I’m really excited to see both these guys back.

Sorry y’all. Silva is a monster and Vera is toast. I like Brandon. Too bad. A lot of the guys I like in the UFC won’t ever be champs. Frank Mir, Forrest, Bonnar, Barry, Guida. Fun to cheer for the underdog though.

  • Devin says:

Funny you mention those cuz Mir and Forrest have both been champs. I’m glad you’re so confident, cuz vera has a great chance of winning.

    • KEVSMITT says:

How does he have a great chance of winning? He was decimated by Silva their first go-around, and before you bring up PEDs, he was owned in all facets of that fight including footwork, transitions, and technique. Marshall is a limited fighter nowhere near the level of Silva, and Vera certainly didn’t handle him with ease. You have to go back to 2009 to find a quality win by Vera (and I use the term quality with reservations because that was Kristoff). Vera had a lot of potential, but he plateaued far too early.
Seriously, I need to know how you think he has a great chance? Or are you just trolling?

      • bsbiz says:

To be fair to Brandon Vera, in 2009, Krzysztof was still a good prospect. It’s easy to make fun of that win now, but at the time, he was still a quality, if slightly unknown, fighter.

      • KEVSMITT says:

I think that just goes to support my point… we have to go back to 09 just to find a win over a quality prospect, rather than a recent win over an elite (or even second tier fighter). Don’t get me wrong, I hope Vera kicks the snot out of Silva and makes a career come-back, but to say he has a “great shot at winning” like @Devin claimed, is nonsense IMO.

  • Gioda-Folas says:

Call me crazy, but I still think Brandon Vera has the potential to be a decent B level UFC LHW. We all know he will never hold the belt, but he should at least be a mainstay in the UFC and win enough to not have to worry about being cut after each fight. Come on Vera, pull it together!

  • Devin says:

Actually he beat randy imo, but either way it was a great performance. And bro what are you talking about Marshall is limited, the dude is above average in every category and a black belt bjj. Anyway to clarify, I’m not sayin he should be favored, But that he could easily pull off a ko or decision after brutal war. Also Silva is coming off a super long lay off. So I think vera has a great chance to win. At least def better than “no chance to win”
