EliteXC-CBS “Saturday Night Fights 2″ Officially Announced For July 26th; Lawler-Smith Rematch To Headline
During the broadcast of EliteXC “Return of the King” on Showtime it was officially announced that EliteXC-CBS “Saturday Night Fights 2″ will take place on July 26th. The event, which will air live on CBS beginning at 9pm ET, will be headlined by an EliteXC middleweight championship rematch between Robbie Lawler and Scott Smith.
In their first meeting at “Saturday Night Fights 1″ in May, Lawler and Smith engaged in an exciting, back-and-forth slugfest that was prematurely halted in the third round due to an accidental eye poke by Lawler. Because the fight had not yet gone the mandatory three rounds the bout was ruled a no contest and a rematch was immediately announced.
Smith, who sustained no eye damage from the accidental poke, was originally believed to have broken his foot during the bout, which could have delayed the rematch, but stated on the “Return of the King” broadcast that he had only suffered ligament damage allowing him to again face Lawler on the July card.

I am glad to see this rematch. The first fight was an absolute THRILLER! To bad it had so much controversy, but the fight itself was an instant CLASSIC! The rematch will be even better!
Should redo the whole card. I think Ang Lee set it up the first time….
