Report: Bonnar May Return To UFC In 2008
UFC light heavyweight Stephan Bonnar, who was forced to withdraw from his April UFC Fight Night 13 bout against Matt Hamill after suffering a serious knee injury, is expected to return to the UFC before the end of 2008 according to a report by The Fight Network:
“The 31-year-old Indianan underwent surgery to repair the damage in March.
“It’s going about as good as it can,” Bonnar said. “I’m about halfway there. Whenever you get a ligament replacement, it’s one of the longest injuries to recover from. I have a good surgeon, so I’m pretty optimistic.”
Bonnar – who owns victories against Keith Jardine and James Irvin – hopes to be able to resume training by September and aims to return to competition towards the end of the year. Time away has given him pause to reflect on his career.
“When something like this happens, a serious injury, it makes you not take things for granted,” Bonnar said. “I’m thankful I’m able to do it.”"

I never thought much of Bonnar aside from his war with Griffin. Hopefully he comes back and can get into another blood bath battle like he did with Forrest. The way I see it, Bonnar came into the UFC and just never got better..stayed steady. Now he has had knee surgery that has put him out of training and fighting. Even when he comes back that knee is going to be weaker, sensitive and a great place to attack. This knee injury may very well be the beggining of the end in a downward spiral of Bonnar’s career.
As soon as Bonner gets healthy, I love to see the UFC put that match together between he and Hamil. I was really looking forward to that fight prior to Bonner getting hurt. Good match up!
JAI,
Agreed on the match up. I just fear for Bonnar against Hammill’s takedown strength. That could be a big advantage against Bonnars knee. Knee injuries suck.
he looked real strong against schafer. i think the steroids will almost even out the huge strength advantage Hammill has…
I met Bonnar last month in the airport in Raleigh, NC. Nicest guy in the world, walking with a brace on his knee. Bigger and thicker than I imagined! Cheered for him because he fights hard everytime, huge fan now because he is just a cool guy!
Yup Bonnars definitely one of the UFC workhorses……. you know those fighters who will never be a champion but put on a great fight and a good show !!!!!!!!!
Man, I thought we were done with this guy.
I LIKE BONNAR. HE IS A FUNNY GUY LIKE GRIFFIN. I HOPE HE DOES WELL. BONNAR/HAMILL MATCH UP ISN’T GOOD FOR BONNAR WITH HIS KNEE AND I DON’T THINK UFC WILL MATCH HIM UP WITH A WRESTLER JUST CUZ HIS KNEE… BUT HEY YOU NEVER KNOW. I WOULD STILL LIKE TO SEE THAT MATCH UP
I think Dana wants Bonnar to stick around for a bit hoping for another slugfest like his original one.
However it seems that Bonnar has injury issues. Remember the broken bone he had that took forever to heal? That boy needs more calcium!
As for Hammill…I am STILL pissed off about Bisbing beating him. Did anyone get fired over that bullsh*t decision? I do believe that was the first sign of corruption in the UFC I had ever seen. Especially since the commentators Joe & Mike were not even allowed to talk about it. What a crock that was!
YZFOXRACING what do you mean they won’t match him up with a wrestler cuz of his knee? Didn’t they already match him up? I don’t think they anticipated him being injured did they? If so then the corruption reaches further than I expected! hehe
man i wish people would drop the whole bisping hammill thing no matter how pissed off people get the result is not guna change,
any idea wen hammill is fighting again?
DANNYBOY I DIDN’T MEAN THEY DON’T MATCH UP. THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN A GOOD FIGHT. BUT IM TALKING ABOUT UFC WON’T MATCH THEM UP BECAUSE OF HIS KNEE. CUZ HE COULD HURT IT AGAIN WITH A WRESTLER. I THINK THEY’LL PUT HIM UP AGAINST A STAND UP GUY. MAYBE ALEXANDER. YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN CUZ LIKE YOU SAID DANA WANTS HIM TO STICK AROUND.
Bonnar never quits! that is why i like him. win or lose!
