Report: Major UFC Announcement To Be Made On Tuesday, June 17th

Posted by Kris Karkoski on Jun 11, 2008 at 1:00 pm ET26 Comments

UFC LogoThe major UFC announcement that will reportedly “rock the MMA world” and indicate where the MMA business is going over the next five years, which UFC President Dana White first revealed last week, will be made next week on Tuesday, June 17th, according to a report by Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer.

The announcement was originally to be made tomorrow.

Yesterday, the UFC officially announced a long-term licensing agreement with JAKKS Pacific as well as a handful of other mechandise deals.

In an appearance yesterday on CNBC’s “Power Lunch” White denied nearly every rumor which had been circulating about the deal. Among the rumors White publicly denied were a partnership with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), the signing of recently-retired star boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr., a UFC television deal on FOX, ABC, ESPN, or any other network, and the UFC going public.

  • Ryan in NY says:

I put money on him announcing a fight in NYC at Madison Square Gardens. Matt Serra and Matt Hughes will be on it but probably not the main event. That will… dare I say… Fedor v Couture?

    A man can dream…

  • raffy says:

Dana should have just kept it a secret.

  • YZFOXRACING says:

THEN THERE GONNA PUSH IT BACK TO THE FINALE ON SATURDAY THE 21ST

  • John Blaze says:

Dana is defently milking the hell out of this…

  • JOHNBOY says:

getting bored of this now, it better shock me or i might sue dana haha

  • Dirty says:

I’m done with this rumor stuff and i don’t even care what it is anymore. Like people have said, all the interesting possibilities have been turned down anyway.

Dana’s been training apparently, maybe hes gonna challenge the Spyder !! lol

  • DigYourOwnHole says:

Dirty… Then Silva will back out, just like Tito did. You might want to punch your boss in the face, but is it really a good idea?

  • huertarogerhuerta says:

if its anything short of creating a featherweight division in the ufc and the first fight is urijah faber fighting norifumi yamamoto i have no interest in this “shockin” announcement anymore

  • JOHNBOY says:

maybe its going to be a 30 man over the top of the cage till one man is left standing with the winner getting to fight tripple h in a i quit match for the wwe championship with david beckham as the guest ref………….to far i thnik haha

  • huertarogerhuerta says:

and i kno yamamoto fights in dream but theres no other real interestin matchup wit anyone for faber at 145 cept mayb a rematch wit pulver would b cool

  • mburten says:

I’m getting sick of this garbage. If Dana has something to say, I wish he would just say it. Why does he have to keep it a secret for another week? He’s like a little kid. Pisses me off.

  • YZFOXRACING says:

ITS PROBALLY A BULL**** ANNOUNCEMENT…WHO CARES

  • A lonley jew says:

The Announcement is he is having a baby with Tito, i’m telling you all :D

  • Gene Simmons says:

Dana is a tool. The announcement was probably the deal to sell UFC merchandise in JCPenney. Who cares! I hope his announcement next week is that he’s leaving UFC because theFertittas have realized what an idiot he is. How many good fighters have left UFC because he puts his personal feelings in front of business.

  • Dave, Md says:

at this point who cares anyone about this announcement…. fighting in NYC isnt something that would rock the MMA world…

  • KOuch says:

WTF!?! This is BS! The suspense has surely lead people to psych wards across the world and suicide by now. My brains started leaking out of my ear earlier so I had to slow my breathing(in through the nose and out through the mouth) and tell myself I will be okay. Soon enough we’ll all know the secret. I will be f-n furious if this is not a BIGGER announcement than that New York legalizing it. This announcement better be better than cracker jacks coming to baseball. It better be bigger than the 700lbs Mexican guy getting married on the AOL homepage. I think I am mad now. I am serious.

  • YZFOXRACING says:

THE ****ING TOYS WERE A BIGGER ANNOUNCEMENT HAHAHAHAHAHAHA I CAN’T BELIEVE THAT LOL YOU CAN’T SAY IT DIDN’T SHOCK THE WORLD HAHAHAHA MAN THAT WAS SOME GAY ****

  • KOuch says:

I liked the toy announcement. I want to get a Bisping figure, bring it to a voodoo person, put a spell on the figure turning it into a voodo doll and then in his next fight make him crap his pants. New York is not shocking. It’s just a new rumor in our desperate attempt for sanity. If it is not a rumor F Dana in his ear with a cactus plant. Please MMA GODS….PLEASE do not let New York be the announcement.

  • Dietrich says:

This is really sad that it has to be dragged out. The doll tbing I guess make sense given it is the same company as the WWE uses so I now understand the Vince connection. I do not understand the space rental though. It might just be they needed to rent space because of a temporary issue(bugs). I really don’t care. What I do care about is
1 Is Monson fighting on the 21st???If not who
    will be?
2 Where will The September WEC be held?
Anybody have a legit answer please post….

  • KOuch says:

I thought Guida was taking his place. I’ll go look and if I’m wrong and remember I’ll post the correction.

  • Kris Karkoski says:

Jason Guida is filling in for Monson. We posted it earlier today (LINK).

  • Dannyboy says:

I think this has been hyped up too much to be worth much. Now he’s moving it to another day? I mean come on…I bet next Tuesday he says, “You have to purchase the next UFC fight on PPV because that’s where I’m making the announcement!”

UFC is MMA… MMA is NOT UFC.

  • KOuch says:

    Dannyboy,

UFC is MMA…. MMA is not UFC

That’s what I tell people all the time. I work with my father in law and brother in law and tell them that all the time. My broter in law is a boxer and I have to hear their uneducated views about MMA being “street fightg.” I am so sick of proving them wrong and going round for round over apples and oranges that I leave it at this now:
When they refer to MMA as UFC, I correct them and say, “You mean MMA, I cannot carry on this conversation if you do not even understand the difference between a sport and a promotion.”
As for the street figing comment I respond, “Oh sorry, I forgot boxing was the only style of fighting that required technique. If you think MMA is street fighting you have no idea what you are talking about.”

Anyway your quote reminded me of a never ending argument.
