Adrenaline MMA: Guida Steps Up As Injury Sidelines Monson

Posted by Kris Karkoski on Jun 11, 2008 at 8:00 am ET7 Comments

Adrenaline MMA 1 PosterJason Guida has managed to cram an entire mixed martial arts career into less than five years.

Known as a hard-nosed competitor who never turned down a fight, Guida was a natural replacement when a broken hand forced Jeff Monson to withdraw from the main event of this Saturday’s Adrenaline MMA show near Chicago.

“Say what you will about Guida, but when you need somebody to jump in on short notice and fight anybody… he’s the guy,” said Adrenaline CEO Monte Cox. “I mean, we all know he’s crazy… but he also comes to fight and you never have to worry about him laying down for anybody. I know this will be a very good main event.”

A native of the Chicago area, Guida’s fighting resume includes almost 40 professional fights all over the world… Russia, Costa Rica, Mexico, Poland. The guy simply loves the competition. And, the tougher the better.

On Saturday at the Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates, Ill., Guida (23-16) will face Chicago police officer Mike Russow (9-1) in the main event of the 14-fight show. The main fights will be televised live on HDNet, beginning at 9:30 p.m. (EST).

“I feel bad for Monson because he really wanted this fight,” Cox said. “But his broken hand wasn’t healing quick enough and you can’t fight at this level with that kind of injury. I’m just fortunate that we had such a quality replacement right in Chicago.”

Guida is the older brother of UFC lightweight standout Clay Guida, who will be in the corner.

Didn’t even know Clay Guida had a brother in the sport also. Clay fights at 155 and apparently his brother fights at HW. Hope he does well in his up coming fight.

I think we’d all jump at the chance to step into the ring with a police officer

I wasn’t going to watch….I’m still not going to but I am defintiely interested in seeing Guida. Is this Clay’s brother? I like the quote where Monte Cox said, “we know he’s crazy.” Most of these guys are….If they are brothers, it be cool to have the HW Guida come to the UFC. Then we could have the Hughes brothers, Diaz brothers if Nick makes his way back and the Guida brothers.

  • Dietrich says:

IS he going to rematch Ricco on the 21st or is the Godz of War main event scrapped?

  • Spud says:

    Dont forget the Serra brothers.

KOuch why would you not watch this event? It’s free!! I watch every MMA event that’s ever on for free. I spend my sunday mornings searching out MMA fights on cable for the entire week to make sure I haven’t missed anything.

You never know when you will find a rising star so I encourage ALL OF YOU to watch this! If you don’t have HDNet then get it! It comes with the HD package which includes many other channels and (for me) it’s only $5.95 a month!

I was there. Sadly so were a bunch of Chicago cops to see Russo. A couple were EXTREMELY drunk and most had no clue what they were talking about (they had no idea about the sport and think of it just as a regular brawl).
I was privledged enough to meet Jason after the fight. One thing I know for sure, he has that same fire in his belly that his brother does, that drives him to fight anyone, at any time. If he had more than a couple of weeks to prepare for the fight, it would had gone down differnt.
