Chances Of Randy Couture Fighting Again In The UFC? “Better Than Zero”

Posted by Kris Karkoski on Jun 6, 2008 at 5:30 pm ET26 Comments

Randy CoutureUFC President Dana White, in his recent interview with ESPN The Magazine, commented on Randy Couture and whether the UFC hall of famer will fight again inside the octagon.

Here’s what White had to say:

The Mag: When was the last time you spoke with Randy Couture?

DW: I talked to him at the last PPV, when he cornered Wanderlei Silva. I said, ‘Hey, what’s up?’ And he was very cool. I like Randy. He had the problem with me. I hate Tito Ortiz, but I don’t hate Randy.

The Mag: What are the chances that Randy fights again in the UFC?

DW: Better than zero. There’s still a chance. We’re still in litigation with him. But I could see us putting everything behind us some day. I don’t know what will happen. But if we could patch things up, I’d put him in The Octagon in a heart beat. All I care about in this business is putting great fights on. If I can get Randy back, I would.

haha **** randy couture. selfish bastard.

  • FixXeR says:

I would love to see him back.

  • JustJoe says:

The guy’s dang near 50, I know he can still fight, but c’mon do we really need to watch him anymore? Maybe if his t-shirts weren’t 60 dollars i’d give a d@mn! ;P

  • RLT says:

Fixxer, I would love to see Randy back as well. It would be nice to see him and Dana put the hard feelings aside and get the fight with Fedor done in the UFC.

  • YZFOXRACING says:

HELL YEAH I WOULD LOVE TO SEE HIM MORE… WHO WOULDN’T.

  • 2girls1cup says:

Dana would be smart to bring him back not only for the fights, but to squash a lot of the rumors about Dana as a person and how he treats the fighters. I think Dana does a great job but he does seem like a douchebag which might be the chink in his armor. patchin things up with Randy would all but erase that image that i’m sure alot of people have of white. if dana could somehow bring dana back and trade him out for bisping, that would make me a customer for life.

  • KOuch says:

    2girls1cup,

Not only was that funny but you couldn’t have said it better. Dana is Dana and should stay that way. Even if he comes across like a prick. The guy is running a now billion dollar company and the most hate for the Dana I have heard is from jealous babies. Without Dana we would not be here daily discussing MMA. I would love to see Randy come back just to make a happy ending like a Disney movie but I realize this is real life with consequences we take to the grave not little kiddie hour.

  • mike says:

well that sounds coll and all but i dont see it happening near 50 years old dana better patch things up quick. Maybe one or two more fights left in him the most

  • Krav138 says:

Itd be good to see Randy back in the UFC…. Hopefully they can put the money bull**** behind them and put some more kick ass fights together!

  • Spud says:

Dana needs to shut up, and pay randy. He’s gonna make the money back and then some with the ppv buys randy brings in.

  • A lonley jew says:

Has Randy still got it in him ?
I mean i think being a movie star is his main priority :(
I hope for a come back but i dont see it, i also dont see a Fedor fight eiter :(

  • JAI says:

I would like to see Randy come back as well, but at this point, it’s probably not going to happen being that Fedor has signed with Affliction. There’s no one worth fighting for Randy except Big Nog and I’m not sure he’s interested in that fight right now. He mind is completely on making movies and fighting Fedor so more than likely, he will join Affliction in order to get that fight done. Of course, Fedor has to get past Sylvia first. Now if Sylvia beats Fedor then Randy may set his sights on Big Nog at that point which would mean a return to the UFC….or he just may go make more movies.

  • FixXeR says:

Maybe they are bringing Randy back to fight Anderson Silva AHHA

  • Krav138 says:

JAI I bet your right, he probably will sign to affliction seeing Fedor and a bunch of other ex UFC fighters are too….well I hope he fights again cause Im not goin to see his movies

  • JAI says:

What fight would you rather see happen?

    Couture-Fedor
(most likely to happen in Affliction)

    Couture-Big Nog
(most likely to happen in UFC)

  • Dietrich says:

I really don’t care to see Randy or Fedor fight again but if it happens I hope Big Tim takes down Fedor(Tim is healthy in a big fight and motivated) and at around that time Randy has made nice with Dana and we get a unification bout rematch with Tim and Randy should Randy beat Minotauro. Nogueira did not match up well with Fedor so what maybe it was Pride rules vs UFC and the Octogon will be the great equalizer. Tim did have a back problem. Trust me when it happens to you just to go 5 rounds you are a bad guy.

  • Dannyboy says:

You don’t want to see Fedor or Randy fight again? Wow, now THAT is a true fan of MMA talking there. *sarcasm*

Randy’s next fight should be Fedor…even if he loses to Sylvia. We could get lucky and if Fedor loses see that fight as there wouldn’t be as much money on the line for both fighters.

  • Dietrich says:

Fedor has been cashing in for too long. And Randy has been tied up for too long both to his and Dana fault. That why. I respect them both but Randy is like 16-8 and Enson has gotten him as well as Chuck twice. Its not going to be as great a fight as everyone hopes..

  • Dietrich says:

The future of the division is Lashely and Coleman and a challenge by Slice. I don’t think Vera will stay Heavyweight too much longer as that kind of power is too much for his frame.

  • Dietrich says:

Fedor’s last real challenge was 2005 with Cro Cop. No disrespect to the others but thats the truth and thats along time between defenses.

  • b says:

who says d white didn’t pay randy.. the dude ended up with about 1.5 million for his 2 fights in 08.. thats a lot of dough no matter how you look at it.. yeah its all a bizness, but i think randy is one of the highest paid anyway, would love to see him fight again before he gets too old.. and his record is somewhat decieving, the guy only fights the best and has no easy wins…unlike others..

  • 2girls1cup says:

slice is coming into the picture for the future of heavy’s? c’mon, the dude’s a joke and and normally you could say the guy will get better in time, but he’s already in his mid 30’s. how long is it gonna take him to develop his skills? even if it’s only 3 years, how much time is he gonna have left at that point before he’s over the hill? i understand that guys like randy but he’s the exception, not the rule.

  • JAI says:

I Just read on MMARATED.com that Dana says the Mayweather story is not true!

I originally made the post after reading on Fightline.com that Mayweather had signed the deal with UFC.

  • Dietrich says:

    from a sherdog post
group of investors led by Dana White have agreed in principle to purchase the UFC from Frank and Lorenzo Fertitta for an undisclosed amount. Included in this investment group is WWE’s Vince McMahon who will now own a minority stake in the company. They also have plans on taking the company public by years end.

At the press conference also expect Dana to announce that with the help of McMahon, who has extensive connections in the New York State Athletic Commission, they were able to get the UFC sanctioned in New York, and plan on having a show sometime in the winter at Madison Square Garden. That is all I have right now.

  • steve johno says:

Dietrich; slice and Lashely your joking arnt u mate kimbos a bum and Lashely hasnt even had a fight yet,as for coleman glad he’s out be a shame for him to get his arse handed to him as he was a cracking fighter in his day

  • carnage says:

In my opinion Randy is the greatest champion i have been blessed to watch compete. One thing about Randy Couture is that you just don’t count him OUT!
