Another Brazilian has joined the UFC 142 fight card, as Thiago Tavares has been booked to face rising lightweight Sam Stout at the January 14 event in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the UFC announced today.
Stout (17-6-1), who withdrew from UFC 137 following the death of his longtime trainer and brother-in-law Shawn Tompkins, has earned wins and bonuses in 4 of his last 5 fights, including “Knockout of the Night” over Yves Edwards at UFC 131 in June.
Tavares (16-4-1) rebounded from a knockout loss to Shane Roller with a TKO of Spencer Fisher at 135 in Rio in August to improve to 3-1-1 in his last 5 fights.
UFC 142 is headlined by UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo vs. Chad Mendes and also features Vitor Belfort vs. Anthony Johnson.
