Gabriel Gonzaga Versus Justin McCully At UFC 86
Former UFC heavyweight contender Gabriel Gonzaga (8-3) will return to the octagon on July 5th against Justin McCully (8-3-2) at UFC 86 in Las Vegas.
The bout was reported earlier this week by MMAJunkie.com.
Gonzaga rose up the UFC heavyweight ranks with wins over Kevin Jordan, Fabiano Scherner, and Carmelo Marrero and earned a bout with Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic for a heavyweight title shot. In a shocking upset, Gonzaga knocked the Croatian kickboxer out with a late first-round head kick. “Napao” was defeated by champion Randy Couture via third-round TKO at UFC 74 in August then lost his second-straight bout to Fabricio Werdum via second-round TKo at UFC 80 in January.
McCully has won four-straight bouts dating back to 2003 including his UFC debut victory over Antoni Hardonk at UFC Fight Night 9 in April 2007. A member of Tito Ortiz’s Team Punishment, McCully has averaged just over one bout per year since debuting in 1997. He was originally set to face Frank Mir at the event but will instead face Gonzaga after the UFC decided to have Mir serve as a coach on The Ultimate Fighter 8 and fight heavyweight champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira later this year.
UFC 86 takes place on July 5th at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada and is headlined by a light heavyweight championship bout between UFC champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Forrest Griffin, who served as coaches on the latest season of The Ultimate Fighter.

Pretty decent match up. Napao needs a win bad (has loss 2 in a row). McCally can really make a noise in the UFC HW division if he can take the win here. I know Justin has to be chomping at the bit to get in there being that he was schedule to fight Mir right before the UFC pulled mir out of the fight. I’m sure Justin didn’t leave camp but has been training the all time wondering when his time to fight was going to come.
I never liked Napao that ape since he ran around like a gorilla after he KO Crocop.
He got owned by Werdum, and I farted in glee.

My wife and I met Gabriel on the flight to Las Vegas the weekend of TUF Finale.He’s a Class Act and I hope he does well on the 5th.

Last thing I heard about the game was that it’s supposed to come out spring 2009.
I know the rumors section has one fight listed, but I was wondering if anyone has heard of possible fights for UFC 88 in Atlanta. When I saw that we were going to have a UFC event here I got a semi-tuffy…
Also, how long out from the event do they normally start sending out information about ticket sales?
I hope Gabe gets back in the w column. I thought he was the next big thing and since the Cro Cop fight he hasn’t looked so good. Let’s go Gonzaga!!!!
Both fighters are cool in my opinion and it is like the Florian vs Huerta fight to me. I want both to win and hate to see one lose. Hopefully we get a good battle out of McCully and Gonzaga because we know we will with Florian vs Huerta. I just hope someone gets KO. I’m not sure what it is but I love seeing people being hit into unconciousness.

Gonzaga is completely overhyped in my oppinion. He does not through combo’s with his striking and relys on power for every shot. He also gasses out in EVERY fight that goes past round 1. When he KO’d Cro Cop it took him from not even being concidered a top 10 fighter to like #4? thats ridiculous. I think he has enough to beat Justin and a few other lower end HW’s but against top contenders like Nog, Werdum, Herring, Couture, Sylvia, Fedor and others he will get tooled. Couture exposed him for an unworthy opponent (with a broken arm Randy still kicked his trash) and Werdum TKO’d him after eating horrid leg kicks. Gonzaga is a C at best.

He’s a smart fighter. Mark Hunt told him what to do against Cro Cop and he did it.

group of investors led by Dana White have agreed in principle to purchase the UFC from Frank and Lorenzo Fertitta for an undisclosed amount. Included in this investment group is WWE’s Vince McMahon who will now own a minority stake in the company. They also have plans on taking the company public by years end.
At the press conference also expect Dana to announce that with the help of McMahon, who has extensive connections in the New York State Athletic Commission, they were able to get the UFC sanctioned in New York, and plan on having a show sometime in the winter at Madison Square Garden. That is all I have right now.

Napoa got lucky with Justin McCully, but the worste part is Justin is having his eye blacked by Dana White because he help Tito train, Justin is his own man not a team member of Titos, seems like Dana White makes it hard for any fighter that friends with someone he doesnt like regardless if the fans think the fighter is great, Dana keeps this up his going to kill the ufc because its not going to be the place were the best fighters will be housed
