Jose Aldo vs. Chad Mendes Headlines UFC 142 in Brazil

A UFC featherweight title fight between champion Jose Aldo and Chad Mendes has been set as the main event for UFC 142 on January 14 in Brazil, the UFC confirmed today.
The matchup was originally scheduled to take place at UFC 133 but lingering injuries to Jose Aldo forced it to be postponed.
Aldo is coming off a recent win over Kenny Florian at UFC 136 and is currently riding a thirteen fight win streak dating back to 2006. Aldo will be looking to defend his UFC title for the third time.
Chad Mendes defeated Rani Yahya at UFC 133 to stay in contention for the title and is 11-0 in his career, using his dominant wrestling base to overwhelm most of his opponents.
UFC 142 is expected to take place on Jan. 14 at the HSBC Arena in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.

Makes sense. Could be a great fight.
Know what I’d really enjoy seeing added to this card, Jake Shields moving back up to 185 and fighting Damian Maia. All the typical Cesar Gracie Camp ‘hating’ aside, that would be a VERY interesting fight to watch IMO.
1) not sure if Jake is back training full-time yet or not. Knew he was taking time to grieve and be with his family after his dad’s death.
2) you could only do a fight like that in Brazil to avoid the boo birds. while personally I love a good grappling pairing, they aren’t exactly appreciated the same way in the states.

That’s exactly why I would really enjoy seeing it on this particular card, in the birthplace of BJJ.
You’re right though, January might be too early for Jake’s MMA return, haven’t heard much as to where he’s at in that respect.
I would like to see him return to MW though.

Shields-Maia should be saved for when the UFC returns to Abu Dhabi…

UFC 61 is not worse than 112.. I would go with UFC 91 being the worse card besides the Brock/Randy fight there was nothing of interest
for some reason ive always thought mendes would be the one to dethrone aldo, but now that its announced i get the feeling aldo is gonna give chad a thrashing!
