MMAFrenzy.com In The New York Times

It’s a proud moment here at MMAFrenzy.com as we were pleased to find our website quoted in a recent article by the New York Times. The article “Ending in Main Event Raises Fans’ Suspicions“, focused on Saturday’s landmark, albeit controversial, EliteXC “Primetime” event which aired on CBS.
Here’s an excerpt from the article quoting MMAFrenzy.com contibutor Eric Shapiro:
Eric Shapiro, a blogger on mmafrenzy.com, suggested that the referee might have been instructed to step in before anything “too gory or morally horrifying could happen,†to protect the sensibilities of a new audience. But Shaw said Miragliotta had been under no such orders. Lembo said the primary interest was to protect the fighters.
“If it lasted two more punches,†he said, “I might have been here defending the decision to let it go long enough for one of the fighters to get hurt.â€
You can read the entire article, which also misquoted MMAJunkie.com, here.

A good point was made in the other NY Times article today, which criticized the Elite XC announcers, President Gary Shaw, and MMA in general. I, for one, could not take my eyes off of Thompson’s giant, bloated, floppy cauliflower ear. I can not believe he went out there and fought with the ear completely full of blood and ous like that. Why didn’t his coaches pop and drain the ear when it first bloated like that? I’ve been an MMA fan for a long time, and we all kn ow of guys with horrific cauliflower ears (ie. Randy Couture and Jens Pulver,) I’ve never seen a fighter eter the cage with an ear so badly filled with pus and blood that it flopped around like that. It was kind of disturbing.
Congrats Kris! I have been a regular on this website for a while now. Thats a big deal. I hope everything keeps growing!
Thanks for the support FixXer!
Thanks FixXer!
I agree with Burtoni it was completely careless of Thompson’s camp to allow him to enter a fight with his ear in that condition. At the very least it could pop during the fight (as it did) and initiate a bias decision or an early stoppage. Kimbo has been exposed for what he is; a highly capable street brawler with next to no ground game. I don’t understand why guys in this MMA era still feel they can match up against these high level artist (Thompson not part of this group). Kimbo will be fighting Butterbean within the next 2 years.
Good job Kris and Eric. I love the site and the group of regulars I get to chat up MMA with. In the future we should set up a MMAFRENZY group meeting at a Vegas event or somewhere…..just throwin it out there. Could be weird but probably more fun than anything. There is a lot of hard core fans here who know their MMA unlike most people I know, the morons on the radio and ESPN.
Eric and Kris,
Congrats! You can’t get much higher than that!
Congrats Eric and Kris…. I have been a regular on this site for a while and you’ll do an outstanding job… Keep up the good work.
P.S Thanks for the “Fit to Fight ” book . I just recieved it today
Thanks everyone – I’d definitely be open to a meet up but I gotta be 21 before I’d do one is Vegas haha. Any event I can attend in the future I’ll be sure to post so we arrange a get together.
Thanks again!
Ok, not to dwell, but the ear was kinda freaky. I am pretty hard to gross out but I couldn’t even look at his ear, even bofore the fight started! My wife and I debated whether it was full of puss, blood or solid. LOL.
Ed, that was the first thing my girlfriend noticed about Thompson but perhaps he prefers to let it run its natural course (aka “popping”) as opposed to having it drained. I’m operating under the assumption that’s possible and he just opted not to have it done.
According to Nick Lembo from the New Jersey athletic commission the blood from his ear didn’t lead to the stoppage, the strikes did but it’s very weird that he doesn’t seem to have made any attempt to get rid of it or, at the very least, make it much less severe/
Not that I want to turn this into an ear conversation but his ear looked like a golf ball was stuffed in there. You ever watch national geographic with the African tribal people who put plates in their ears or stretch their neck and lips? That is what Thompson’s ear reminded me of. An English tribal golfer. Stupid ear full of nastiness. He should have taken a handful of that blood and whatever else came out and shoved it in the refs mouth.
Congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!
