Kaitlin Young: “I Wanted To Continue”
In case there was any doubt that the Kaitlin Young/Gina Carano fight was also unnecessarily stopped this past Saturday night at EliteXC “Primetime”, here are some words from Kaitlin Young regarding the decision:
“My left cheek and area surrounding the eye are looking pretty ugly today, but there was no major damage. Though it may have looked like it on tv, I never actually had an open wound. What you didn’t see was that the doctor actually cleared me to fight the third round but the commission said ‘no.’ I wanted to continue, my corner wanted to continue. The cut likely would have opened in the third but it was under the eye.
If I had to guess, I would say that they didn’t want the visual of a woman with a bloody face on CBS. They also chose not to do a post fight interview with me or to include me in the post fight news conference and after party. I think the reason for that was my beat up appearance after the fight because I was not seriously injured and was completely coherent. I am very disappointed about that but cant help but wonder how people would have responded to that, as stupid as it is.”
All I have to say is, I knew it. But its not like I’m the only one. Of course you have to imagine most anybody watching that bout found it funny that there was no post fight with the “injured” Young, or mention of what specifically the doctors concern was over her. If airing MMA on CBS means manipulating outcomes just to keep pretty faces and marketing figures on the screen, then they might as well just call it professional wrestling and ditch the MMA concept all together. If EliteXC continues to air on CBS, I can only hope that they learn from their mistakes and mishandling of a now tainted product.

If you want to watch mma get cable or a dish! Now everywhere I look I see questions, “should mma be on network tv?” I say no, all it does is gives senior citizens and women something else to complain about.
regular tv just isnt ready for MMA… The only reason elite xc was a success was beacuse people wnted to see what it was like that cant get spike or dont know much about MMA, but trust you me the rating will start to drop and drop fast.. Mr. Shaw doesn’t have what it takes to make elite xc a top 5 MMA promotion , They are babying Kimbo, He isnt ready for MMA yet, I will give him credit for being a Brawler but MMA figther he his NOT…. I wont even get into Saturday nights fights……………….. Elite XC is NOT UFC
Maybe network tv is never ready for anything real.
See any war casualties on the news?
See any close-ups of Kaitlin after the fight?
See anything besides make-believe?
They should have let Kimbo continue–that was fine, but then they should have let his opponent continue to.
I love it.. Gina couldnt make weight… And yes she was doing well.. But then u call the fight cuz young got a black eye.. Come on.. Gina better not be happy with that win.. Nor SHOULD BIMBO SLICE…
As a fighter myself, and a long time fan of MMA, I found the entire show to be a circus. If I wanted to see dancing girls trying to rip some half-assed fighters shirt off, with pyrotechnics and more theatrics than fighting, I would tune into WWE or some crap like that! I couldn’t help but visualize the smile on Dana White’s face as the show faltered minute by minute. The UFC has it right, Pride had it right, the WEC has it right and bodog is right there. Lets just leave it to them, and all of the prime time viewers can get excited when a “survivor” catches something to eat! What a discrace to our sport, from the announcers, to the refs! No disrespect to the fighters…I just hope they didnt sign any long term contracts!
elite xc was a joke…im so glad i didnt have to pay for that event…you knew from the start it was rigged for kimbo to win…and it was just a big circus to try and get viewers…only good thing that night was the lawler fight which ended from a poke of the eye…elite xc is pussies n the ufc is the ****
Gina Carano fight that was a good fight.but Kaitlin Young’s eye was about 3 inches off her face she was recked! i think it was a good call.
I’m just glad this site can see the EliteXC for what it is. I can barely stand to read off of MMAjunkie.com anymore because of their articles about EliteXC.
I have to say I lightly enjoyed the EliteXC’s first stab at network TV. Of course it wasn’t what we were used to…but was anyone REALLY expecting it to be? If you were then you should really do some research on the reality of network television.
That being said, Eric Shapiro is EXACTLY correct that a fight should not be stopped or manipulated due to network rules. I question the decision on the last 3 fights. Young could continue, Smith could continue and Thompson…well it would have at least been fun to see that ear busted open even more…I do believe Kimbo would have won that fight.
I liked Kimbo much more when I’d watch him on youtube smacking “bouncers” up, and tackling winnahs from the street!
This Elite thing was a complete joke!
Agreed, what a joke they put on. I felt like I was watching WWE wrestling. Shame on them! Why the heck was “Big Black” security in the cage? More theatrics? or does a MMA fighter really need 3 bodyguards? It really sickens me to see that kind of show on network TV representing MMA. You knew who Shaw wanted to win, and they did everything in their power to “make” them win. Since it was a first glimpse into MMA for some, I’m sure it will be their last. Amazing how much damage you can do to a sport in 2 hours, so sad that people may never know what MMA is really all about.
We are back to human cock fighting, thanks Shaw.
