Wow… they’re really throwing Vera a bone here. Hopefully he’ll make the most of it.
I’m excited about this card. ALmost as much as tomorrow’s card. I hope my man GSP puts it on Condit (even though I like Condit as well).
Should be a great night of fights all around.
oh by the way, jcohl… first! lol, had to brother. Can’t let Jason have all the fun.
:)
The Cowboys needs to be on the main card that is going to be a hell of a fight. Although he’ll probably get more fans on free tv.
@advent
LMAO!
And yeah, the org is definitely helping Brandon Vera out here.
We talk about this all the time over at the forums, about how Dana White has his favorites, either personal or promotional, so they get a LOT more slack cut to them then fighters who aren’t as entertaining and/or useful…
siver vs cerrone not on the main card?, thats just a fu**in disgrace
Right? yet George Roop is… I can’t call it.
Damn can’t wait! 3 weeks away! I get to see my boy GSP live!
No doubt! Man, Jazz, my wife surprised me with a trip to New York so we could go over to Jersey and see GSP fight Hardy. Not only was it my first live UFC event, but I got meet GSP afterwards. People just bum-rushed the cage area where he was giving interviews and he stopped and slapped hands and took a couple pics.
Awesome time. you should have a lot of fun. Take plenty of pics too!!
I’ve posted this before, but it bears repeating.
The UFC is doing guys like Denis Siver and Donald Cerrone a solid by having them fight on the SpikeTV part of the card, and it is is no way, shape or form a “fu<kin' disgrace".
First, neither guys is a promotional powerhouse, and the more eyes that check them out at this stage of their UFC careers, the better for all concerned.
Trust me, Siver and Cerrone's handlers and sponsors are delighted to have their principals featured on cable TV, instead of buried and possibly forgotten on a card featuring names like GSP and BJ Penn.
TUF fans will know Roy Nelson and Matt Mitrione, small show fans know who Nick Diaz is, and older PRIDEful fans know Mirko CroCop.
But from the casual fan POV, who the fu<k are Siver and Cerrone?
Of course serious fans know who almost all these men are, but the UFC in 2011 isn't geared towards the serious fans. The org knows serious fans will educate themselves, so its the casual fanbase that needs to be better acquainted with men like Siver and Cerrone.
And considering how stacked their weightclass is with amazing talent, the Sivers and Cerrones of the UFC need all the promotional help they can get.
Truthfully if you aren't an MMA household name and you aren't in the main event or co-main event of a UFC card, the best place for you is on SpikeTV, or wherever Fox throws TV prelims next year [Fuel?].
I understand that some might see Siver-Cerrone being on SpikeTV as a bad thing, but in all the ways that matter is really isn't…
Thats one way of looking at it but realisticaly these bills are basically a peking order type thing, and the “bigger” names are the higher up fights and quite simply dennis siver is a hell of alot more well known than hatsu hioki or roop, also he must be very close to title shot seen’s as he beat sotiropoulos who was gonna get a shot hadn’t he of lost, also his last 4 were broadcast and he won them all, and let us not foget, let us NOT forget he’s against cerrone who is also a more well known name than either roop or hioki. i think its also potentially a graet fight, and if being on the spike prelims is promotianally a good thing for fighters careers than roop and hioki should well be there, cause no one knows who they are and i beleive the winner is very close to facing aldo.
Just as an FYI, this isn’t my opinion or a specific POV thing.
This is pretty much the generally accepted mindset behind how the SpikeTV cards are set up.
Frank Mir once told about 30 of us at an appearance at a motorcycle show that the fighters he talks with are stoked to score SpikeTV slots if they aren’t getting main or co-main event fights.
The org feels they’re doing fighters a solid by giving them exposure that translates to real increased income from sponsors, and in return the fighters and their sponsors are glad to get the opportunity to feature themselves in cable TV.
I get what you’re saying about a pecking order, and in a lot of combat sport situations, especially boxing, you’d be right.
However according to all concerned thats not the way things are being done as it relates to the prelim fight/free TV stuff…
Mitrione-Congo is really intriguing I feel confident in all my pics besides this one (and possibly BJ-Diaz) could be a helluva fight
I got Mitrione in that fight because he is the better athlete. Kongo has great success against people who stand in front of him of and fail to utilize movement. With Mitrione he will have to constantly work to keep up with him and I think Kongo will tire out.
I know Kongo has a lot of power but Mitrione is quicker and I would argue slightly more technical. I don’t see a replay of Kongo/Barry because Pat Barry is a lot more stationary on his feet than Meathead which allowed Kongo to capitalize. Mitrione won’t make the same mistake.
Meathead via unanimous decision/TKO.
I hope GSP doesn’t get caught greasing again. There, I said it. And I mean it.
@Dannyboy4455
What are you on about? Quit trolling, GSP hasn’t greased since he fought B.J. the second time, it’s been a non issue. So again, what are you on about?
Sorry for trolling, I promise this is the only issue that I am ever a toll about. This and Josh Barnett, that is all!
Nick Diaz will win, then Dana will have to let him fight GSP. The fans like Diaz and he is a fighter. Dana has way to much power in the UFC. Think about it, what if the NFL or MLB had someone like Dana White? Let’s say, Dana’s hatred of some fighters hurts the UFC. We want to watch Nick Diaz, Tank Abbot, and Josh Barnett. Every time a free UFC fight has a Spike event, it seem to me like I have seen Sam Stout fight at least 1,000 times. Dana loves Stout? Why?
The fact that you actually mentioned wanting to see Tank Abbott fight says more about you than anything else. Maybe he loves Stout because he knows Stout will go out there and fight whoever is put in front of him and put maximum effort into it.
